it'd be wonderful if it didn't exist. However, many would pay labourers $1 an hour simply because so many would show up and just do whatever work for a piece of bread at the end of the day. Labour laws are there to protect the idiots from letting the idiot employers pay them garbage because they are dumb enough to accept it. I also wish minimum wage didn't exist, but without it, where would accountability be held?
It's stupid because one job is not like another, but the problem is the lack of accountability and responsibility that employers have to up hold wage raises based on inflation in the market. Therefore, you need these laws, which are more damaging then good. Then you have comparisons like "$10.00 does well in Sf", do I use them as well? Of course, because I know without these comparisons and laws fucking idiots would hire employees for a nickel a day, and there'd be no money to spend. Our entire economy is based on consumerism. It sucks but it's true. We are a country of gluttony. And along with it must maintain the standard for gluttony. And while I'll admit a window washer may not deserve more then $4 an hour, I also admit that most corporate fuckers with their layers and layers and layers and layers of management would screw every single person and that most of these corporate jobs even at the most basic labour level deserve better then average pay, if only $1 more an hour.
I have to take sides in a war, and it's unfortunate that I do.. but I'm sure as shit not going to watch the stress of 7% unemployment, knowing that a dollar more an hour would give people a lot more money to spend and might very much boost economic features of business that need the consumer revenue, and simply say "you are right, un skilled people don't require more then $6 an hour, why get paid $9."
Perhaps an individual government mandate for what minimum wage is for certain industries should be applied. For example, restaurants get away with not paying people $7 simply because those people are "apparently compensated" with tips. Why not create an individual minimum wage for each type of industry, so fucking people pulling their arm out every day aren't stuck with some ass hole giving them $7, but at the same time a guy sweeping a floor doesn't have to get paid $9.
This is why I don't believe in Wall Street, for reasons of stupid greed and the fact to me that it's not necessary for a company to control hundreds of billions in revenue and own half the world, but also because people get so bug eyed and starry over these stocks and shares of profits. Personally, I believe in tangible, if you own shares, it's of your own business, that you can go to the lot and control decisions made daily, or things like nice cars and homes, that are tangible, you own them and can sell them. I don't have any more faith in the money stream market known as Wall Street. To me it's equivalent to a game of poker. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't win, if you are lucky you win big, if you aren't you lose big.
And accountants who sit in a stupid office all day surely don't have the real world experience in their little office to tell clients where to put their money in what stocks. At least brokers and traders on Wall Street deal with the changing fluctuating prices every day, I'll give you that much, and often times meet new individual clients with funds and are trusted to raise the revenue of those funds on a daily basis. However, most of these brokers are lot like the boring accountant that loses all your money anyway.
If I had money to invest, I'd count every .10 cents all the way every day, I'd never invest in a bond. Anyway.... got off track a bit
