I propose that you will spend much of your free time of the coming week researching the Nazis of old and the Nazis of today, then next sunday evening you can re-evaluate whether what I say is "just as bad as the Nazis".

hey man, i wasn't trying to point fingers or name call. in fact you're one of the only people in this thread whose opinion actually closely resembles mine. also, i happen to like you and your posts in general. i was just making the point that i don't believe it is prudent to fight a movement that wishes to install an oppressive government by using the very methods of an oppressive government.

& not to sound like i'm trying to convince you that i'm all-knowing or infallible when it comes to the subject, but i consider myself to be quite a history "buff" (i hate that term though ) and would just like you to know that i'm not one of those people that generally throws the word nazi around without knowing what the nazis actually were, stood for, or did. to be honest, i actually can totally relate to your position:

every time i do this i realize that i can't seem to ever make a post about anything without posting some song...but growing up as a punk-obsessed kid, the band aus-rotten has a song that echoes your sentiment, and thus having grown up listening to the song, i can more easily see your point:

aus-rotten - "fuck nazi sympathy"

^the lyrics are in the video, but the main line that sums it up would be "DON'T GIVE THEM THEIR FREEDOM, 'CAUSE THEY'RE NOT GONNA GIVE YOU YOURS". while i still believe in every other sentiment expressed in this song just as strongly as i ever did, that is the one line i have ambivalence toward. while if it came down to street battles like there were between the rotfront and the nazis like in weimar-era germany, i would gladly join the fight against them, i don't believe in using an interpretation of the first amendment to deny them their right to free speech.
