Is RYO tobacco any better than pre-rolled?
    #18094520 -

My cousin's mom allows him to smoke tobacco, but he's not 18 yet so I usually buy them for him.
Today, he wanted some roll-your-own tobacco since it was way cheaper. He can't roll either so I had to roll up like 20 of them. I smoked one of them and felt a much more subtle buzz despite having no filter. I also noticed there was no biting aftertaste on my tongue. It was still harsh, and tasted like tobacco, but the worst of it seemed to be gone.

I googled it and some people think RYO tobacco is less damaging. I didn't find any conclusive evidence and only found unprofessional responses so I really don't know. I have a tiny cigarette I rolled myself just because it's actually a little enjoyable without the repulsive taste. I usually never smoke tobacco

Better as in healthier? Not likely.
But I'm sure it tastes better, and probably fresher.

No, I deliberately avoided the word "healthier"
I meant does it contain any of the additives that prepackaged cigarettes contain? I'm not entirely educated on tobacco since I don't normally use it. I do know that they use horrid chemicals on them though.
I've even heard that they put stuff that potentializes nicotine and makes you addicted faster. Idk though, they say crazy stuff about other drugs too

Around here RYO is not really cheaper, unless you buy the crappy ass nasty tobacco.
Shit even a pouch of tops or Bugler is only a buck or so cheaper than a pack of American Spirits. That might just be certain state taxes though.

Oh in that case I'm sure it depends on the brand and whether they have additives. Each brand probably has a website.

When i smoke RYO tobacco (usually Drum or Bali Shag) i smoke alot less. Even without filters it feels less harsh on my lungs. RYO is the way to go

They just recently jacked up fed tax on RYO by some crazy amount. Special interest lobbying  :burke:.

Just grow your own, then you don't have to pay taxes.

Also, your cousin's mom is an idiot.

For years I have been making My own cigarettes that are identical to commercial brands for about 80 cents a pack. The machine is $50 to $80 at any tobacco store. The filter tubes are like a carton of cigarettes with no tobacco. The tobacco is pound bulk pipe tobacco, taxed differently from cigarette tobacco(think about who smokes tobacco pipes). The machine stuffs the tobacco in the tubes.I guess that will soon change, but I will not pay $4 tax on a $5 pack of cigarettes!

Rocks speak to me, and tell me this:
The Hell Creek formation is a gigantic slab of rocks that covers several western states. It contains an account of the dinosaurs' demise.  In the late Cretaceous period, the first Cannabis species appear, and soon after, all the non-bird dinosaurs disappeared. Obviously, marihuana killed the dinosaurs. That giant meteor that smacked the yucatan peninsula right afterwards, coincidence.

I do the same thing. I'm quitting when RYO is gone.

They're a hell of a lot better, I can't imagine smoking commercial cigarettes anymore, and I really dislike doing it.

RYO also doesn't give that fire feeling in your lungs or that filmy shit.

God cigarettes are terrible I should just quit anyway.

I roll my own.  I use a Top-o-matic machine in conjunction with The Good Stuff tobacco and whatever tubes are cheapest.

rollies are not healthier in any way. They are still the same tobacco, you just roll it yourself and choose to put a filter in or not.

Cheaper, yes. When I smoked, if I had a pouch of bugler, it would last me a week or two and costs the same as a pack and a half, so I spent less and smoked less too.

I'd smoke half a rollie and get all the nicotine I wanted.

IMO bugler is by far the best rolling tobacco. The loose american spirit stuff was 2nd best.

Bugler is terrible to handle though. It's not cut right or the right consistency. A good tin of American Spirit should be nicely cured. Sometimes people store them shitty, or since not many people fork over the extra cash, they get stale. Opening a drying tin fucking sucks. I buy them in bulk across state lines when we go hit civilization. I'm on my last tin, and it's dry and crumbly as fuck. It wasn't a good way to start the morning, the last 7 were all fine (and for a long time).

I can't say you guys have a terrible taste in tobacco since you obviously enjoy it, but wow I'd never have those brands ever again. I'd smoke a commercial cig and just deal with it or not even have one at all..

I'm glad camel snus and tobacco pouches stuck around, too. Chew was great, ball of it in your cheek playing baseball kinda deal. Red Man, lol, ftmfw.

Anyone else smoke pipes either?

truth about bugler being cut shitty. Not every pouch, but some have long ass stringy pieces of tobacco. Bugler is all about the taste for me though, it's really mellow and I love the smell and taste of it

Also I would never buy the big tins or pouches, for the same reason of the tobacco being super dry and crumbly at the end. Nothing more bunk than super dry tobacco.

I know, I hate it when you've got perfectly good material in front of you but just can't work with it.

I buy mine for me and for my wife, most of the time tins make it fine to the bottom.

This last one is really bad. I should've shaken it better when I was stocking up. There's a distinctive noise to the dryness. If it sounds like it's fine then it means it's dry. If it sounds like it's dry, it's fine. I'm not kidding.

But, yes, I had a winter or frostbite or some shit snus today and kept smoking while working, and holy balls, slammed and amped on my ass. Ended my Friday with a major energy boost.

Hey, if you really want to get your cousin to take up a healthier smoking habit, you guys should consider checking out vaping e-cigarettes. It's a lot cheaper, and not as stinky, either.

I'll never smoke again, but I fucking LOVE nicotine :awegrow:
