RYO Smokers
    #13658973 -

What the fuck happened to Bali Shag?

I loved this stuff, and then one day, around the time of the RYO tax hike, it disappeared. I've tried other Peter Stokkebye blends, such as the Amsterdam Shag, but I need my Bali fix.

Has anyone seen this available where they live? 'They' discontinue anything that I take a liking to, no matter what it is! :shakefist:

They still sell it I bet just under a different name. If you havent noticed they now call it pipe tobacco to avoid the tax.

Nah man they still make it, but when they hiked the prices sky high most places stopped carrying it. What really sucks is that happened literally the week I decided to switch to RYO exclusively.

Now I buy shit quality, long wide crinkle cut tobacco for $10/8oz and making my own. It's suitable but it's not pleasurable by any means.
Makes me really sad, actually. Pretty sure I'm gonna just quit.

They don't just call it that, they cut it extremely long and thick, which makes it *not shag*

Shag is extremely fine cut, moist tobacco.

Long crinkle cut is disgusting and harsh.

I've considered that, and I know a lot of RYO brands have re-branded their product to avoid the tax, but still no dice. It looks like it's available again in some places, though, so I'm curious.

I can't even get them to order it at the shops around here, they insist it's discontinued.

The one shop online that I've ordered tobacco from and can vouch for says that it's out of stock.

Guess I'll have to try another.

Drum tobacco IMO is pretty much the same as Bali Shag. Smoke that.

The Amsterdam Shag by Peter Stokkebye is a halfzware that's very, very similar to Bali Shag.

It's the only one I've tried of the line. They've got a Turkish, Danish, Norwegian, a London export, etc. A bit on the pricey side but nothing absurd considering how expensive it's all become anyway. But Krash, if you're looking for a quality RYO that is similar to Bali, that's the closest it gets.

If I could find a Dutch guy willing to send me some Zware Van Nelle tobacco, I'd be :awesantabig: ... Shit, even the Drum is better over there.

It's not the same, man. Yeah, it's the same cut, but US Drum is dogshit.  :puke:

hahahaha I hate Drum. I just figured the packaging looks the same so it might be the same  I quit smoking 3 months ago, but before that I smoked Kite.

I would buy Drum occasionally, but I can't stand to smoke it anymore so I switched to American Spirits. They're more expensive, but bigger and packed mighty tight, so I guess it's fine for now.

Drum is just awful; the only thing that's worse than that, in my opinion, is american spirit.

American Spirit is fucking disgraceful. They make organic tobacco, sure, but at the cost of quality product. They have the harshest (not to mention most over-packed hard to smoke) cigarettes I've ever smoked. Their rolling tobacco is even worse; it feels like I'm smoking cardboard :frown:

sorry, I sell hundreds of packs to various types of hipsters and random old people who think they're doing themselves a favor every single day and I rarely get the opportunity to rant about this.

Anyways, isn't it impossible to order RYO online now (in new york anyways)? I haven't checked since the tax thing went into effect, but when that was going on they were saying that it's literally not do-able anymore

I've been strongly considering switching to snuff. I LOVE snorting tobacco. Makes me feel like a man :randy:
(even the fruity kinds )

I agree with you about AS as far as tobacco in general goes, but compared to every other factory-rolled cigarette I've ever tried, I prefer to smoke them. Factory-rolled smokes (Marlboro, Camel, Winston, etc) are all pig disgusting and they've gotten even worse over the last couple years. The Spirits are the only halfway decent one when there is no longer any readily available RYO of quality around here.

The amount of additives they're using has definitely increased since back in the day. Even the Winston packs don't say "100% additive free" on them anymore. That used to be their big marketing point.

Nothing beats the natural freshness of rolling your own  and people who roll their own are OG :jah:

Are you referring to that legislation they called PACT? I was so enraged when I first heard about that. But as it turns out, as far as I know, it only effects their ability to ship tobacco via USPS. All of the online tobacco shops I've checked are still operating.

have you tried marb 27's?

Thread #2 I'm posting this in today:
they make me happy (I'm the blond fag with the carton)

Nat Sherman Naturals are another incredible alternative. They're in fact a lot better than marb 27's; I just support them first because I've been smoking them for nine years.

A box of tubes is like two bucks here

It really sucks though man, this shit is fucking subpar. I don't even enjoy smoking it, I just do it because I need a reason to go outside at my job for ten minutes every now and again and everything decent is now $35+ and that's just not worth it; I could buy weed instead, yah'mean?
