It's actually 1994, and they're relevant again.

I never said anything about either of the bands in my OP being good or bad. It's bout the concept these specific songs play off.

Poor dumb canary
You finally threw yourself into the glass
Treated you so badly
Gave you everything that you wanted

Poor dumb bird

You sang a song or two
You did it better than anyone else
They took it far as they could
They took it into their hands and it got to your good

Poor dumb bird

You think you made it stop,
You think you made it good,
You think you saved your soul,
You can watch from your box as they serve up what's left of your mead

Poor dumb bird

The sun can rise if it wants,
The rain can fall if it wants,
The fire can strike where it likes
But when one good bird chooses to fly the whole sky starts to look better

Now that you've gone and lit up the sky And gone and left it burning
There's no one left to do your work Though they're already starting to try

Many sweet song that was left to come will stay on the tip of your tongue
Many sweet song that was left to come will stay on the tip of your tongue

boo-urns.

The Chambered Nautilus by (my favorite band) The Acacia Strain harps on the themes you are speaking of. It's a great fucking song in my opinion. Way better than Green Day or Whitesnake, but to each his own.

It is never fucking over.
I don't need to explain myself to anyone.
Let the icecaps melt.
May none survive.
No chance of hell.
The seas will rise.

This is a house, it is not a home.
I always knew I would die alone.
Put up without a fight.
And when I drive, I drive at night.
Miles to go, it only gets darker.
I count the dotted lines, not the mile markers.

A man without a nation.
A king with no crown.
Where there's no place left to go but up,
I will only bring you down.

We were a mistake.
We have miles to go before I wake.
The left hand of god holds the hammer and the snake.
We have miles to go before we wake.
You all speak like desperate men, all living in the lion's den.
This is the end of the line, and everything's fine.
Everything's fine.

Let the icecaps melt.
May none survive.
No chance of hell.
The seas will rise.

This is a house, it is not a home.
I always knew I would die alone.
Frozen minds, we stare ahead.
Everyone I ever loved is dead.

Rush: The Anarchist:

The Anarchist

Will there be world enough and time for me to sing that song?
A voice so silent for so long
For all the years I had to get along, they told me I was wrong
I never wanted to belong - I was so strong

(I lack their smiles and their diamonds;
I lack their happiness and love
I envy them for all those things,
I never got my fair share of, my fair share of)

The lenses inside of me that paint the world black
The pools of poison, the scarlet mist, that spill over into rage
The things I've always been denied
An early promise that somehow died
A missing part of me that grows around me like a cage
A missing part of me that grows around me like a cage

In all your science of the mind, seeking blind through flesh and bone
Find the blood inside this stone
Well, I know I've never shown what I feel, I've always known
I plan my vengeance on my own - and I was always alone

(I lack their smiles and their diamonds;
I lack their happiness and love
I envy them for all those things,
I never got my fair share of, my fair share of)

The lenses inside of me that paint the world black
The pools of poison, the scarlet mist, that spill over into rage
The things I've always been denied
An early promise that somehow died
A missing part of me that grows around me like a cage
A missing part of me that grows around me like a cage

Oh - They tried to get me
Oh - They'll never forget me

wipers are my favorite band, no joke. greg sage is a genius, "is this real?" is a perfect album, and "over the edge" + "youth of america" are close to it. since those 3 albums are in the box set i assume youve heard em all, but at the risk of derailing the thread, here are some wipers songs that aren't from those 3 albums that i've found & loved:

does it hurt?

nothin' to prove

same old thing

let me know
