So I was making some slants today and I decided to make 9 wedges in micro-centrifuge tubes. They are Pleurotus ostreatus. If anybody wants one I'll give them away just pm me your mailing address.

You should  not go strait to spawn with that wedge I mean You could but You should grow it out on more agar then you will have plenty to work with.You will also be sure that you have a clean culture. I am very careful when working with agar,grains,lc, sporess,ect. But you should still let it grow out on another petri dish.

Yeah, I am just getting excited cause I just got my PC and other supplies in the mail recently and my petri dishes are still a week or so out.  I had planned on going to grain, letting it colonize, then go to a few agar dishes when they got here and have those for storage.

I have it in the fridge now, think it would be too risky for me to go straight to grain, I wouldn't want to jeopardize the culture you spent the time to send.

Maybe I'll just mess around with cloning a grocery store fruit till I get the agar gear to make sure I'm starting off right/clean.

Good deal man you can store that wedge for several weeks in the fridge safely, it was freshly made. You can get a clean environment in a still air box.Just take a wood burner or a heated piece of metal and burn out arm holes in a Rubbermaid box it might crack if you just try to cut it.Blast the inside of the box with iso Wipe everything down with iso-alcohol before loading it into your box. Scrub your hands and arms with dish washing soap very well to get rid of all spores, bacteria, lose skin cells, and hairs.Do not leave your petri-dishes open any longer than just a few seconds.I like to just open mine halfway with one hand and make the transfer with the other hand. These are just a few tips for you man.If you have any ???? Ask and I'll do my best to help you out.

After reading this it made me jealous. I still have a presto with the silicon gasket. I just ordered my 921 on amazon for 199.00 with free shipping I am super excited.:laugh:

Easy, don't knock the Presto. My 23qt has been kicking ass for years! :grin:

What do you mean by silicone gasket though? Mine and all replacements for it are medium density rubber (could be silicone I guess).

I was looking for replacement gaskets for mine because it seemed to be getting a lot looser. So I thought that it wouldn't last much longer.Most of them were labeled as silicon.
