what thermometer to use for testing pasteurizing temp ?

heyyo,

So if SWIM is pasteurizing dung in a pot of boiling water, what type of thermometer is it that you use to keep the temp at 170F? My first dung was done without use of thermometer and that worked just simmering but I just experienced my first contams ever with my second attempt at dung, so it's time to do it right! I've heard people refering to a "candy thermometer" but I don't know what that is.. could somebody give me other names that it goes by and give a description please?

A candy thermometer. If you're too lazy to find one (like me) just ask a store employee (don't worry they're not all like a suspicious item).

if you shop around, you should be able to find one at about half that price .

I think this guy I know bought his for like $2 at a grocery store. Grandmas do it like every day.
