rolling in unsterile vermiculite?

Does this cause a problem? i was thinking that it would be inmpossible for contamination to get a foothold on vermiculite to grow and that since the cakes are fully colonized, it wouldn't be ab le to infect them anyway. Am I wrong?

it shouldn't be a problem, but if the bag of verm has been open for awhile i would put the verm in the microwave and nuke for 5 minutes, then repeat, then roll in it after it has cooled

Wet unsterile vermiculite can mold. As long as you spray it with an h202/water solution I don't think you'd have to worry though.

That is what I do and it seems to keep the contams at bay. The only contam I have had was some green shit on a cake that was not rolled in verm at all.

Like I've said before, my friend threw a few cakes outside over night, brought them in the next afternoon after they sat in twigs, moss, dirt, etc etc and then rolled in verm straight out of the bag and put in a fruiting chamber with no problems. Contams are my bitch, they can't touch this shit.

I was really trying to free up my pressure cookier for other things, i totally forgot about my microwave.  Thanks for the help, although i should have figured this one out myself :smile:

I bet they were fresh birthed cakes? AFOAF has found that fresh cakes are quite contam resistant. But I don't think that would be wise after a flush or two.
