Tegus are awesome, just make sure you handle them a lot. Once they get up around 2-3 feet they can bite a finger off pretty easily. I used to feed a 3.5 foot black and white tegu large rats and the first thing he would do was bite the head and you could just hear the skull crunch like it was an eggshell... Look at these teeth!

I'll post pictars of some of my animals tomorrow.

Yeah, you have to put in a lot of time to get them tame. The Argentine tegu is supposed to be less skittish than most of the Tegus though. I had a pretty vicious iguana a couple years ago. He was a little under 4 feet long. He was a dominant male and 6 months out of the year he was an asshole because of breeding season. I still loved him to death which is why I can't wait for my next reptile.

This Tegu also go into a period of hibernation called brumation. They pretty much burrow themselves in a hole for 3-6 months. They need a decent sized cage but it doesn't have to be tall like iguana cages. I am probably gonna have a separate room for my reptiles when I can afford a house.

I may need to start breeding rats to feed this fucker. I know a breeder that sells 10 rats for 15 bucks, but I have a feeling this  reptile is gonna eat a ton.

my dearly missed chameleon.  i'm not good at taking care of pets so i donated it back after a couple months.  i felt bad because they aren't very social and don't really like to be held and stuff, but i wanted to play with it sometimes and it just wasn't having it.  awesome creatures though

So unique.  I JUST remembered I had some other pics on my old phone that I took with it when it was chilling at the pet-shop where it was in limbo after I returned it but before it went to its new home.  I wish I had those pictures now!  I remember it was so shy and didn't like contact with people much at all, but when I went back to check on it before it went to its new home, I held it one last time and it didn't want to leave me.  It clung to my shirt real hard for a little bit.. I cried a little on the inside that day.

:awepreciation:

sorry, ready to fall asleep and too lazy to post a pic but just wanted to say that some of my dream snakes are:

jungle carpet pythons
diamond pythons
calico reticulated pythons
green tree pythons
piebald ball pythons

with all of these though i would only ever buy something that i believed to be an exceptional specimen that i hand picked from a trusted breeder.  there`s so much inbred junk out there these days it`s ridiculous.

Argentine tegus are about as close as you can get to being friendly because they are one of the smartest lizards out there.

Reptiles have VERY small brains and are almost all instinct, which is why they are difficult to train.

This is a picture of me and my ex's snake. She wanted me to take it when we broke up, but I said fuck no, cause I don't want to own anything that makes me think of her.

Bearded dragons are great for anyone who wants their first reptile.

I heard Geckos can be mean.
