Nope. but since no one that has viewed has answered. i'd assume only certain people have watched this movie.

(or maybe it is Kent, but i think there is more to the movie then Kaiser Soza's story about the assassination. i think it's a placeholder for the film, which is really simply about a heist, with an exact process of removing witnesses. for all that is shown, there could be TWO Kaiser Soza's, for example. it could be a "villain myth", used by more then Verbal, to perpetuate the removal of excess baggage with witnesses.)

ding ding ding ding the answer can be posponed no more.

i was kinda hoping some ninnies would try and say that Verbal was Kaiser, and so many people will argue that he is, for all time.

it's not, though; even if the film makers say it's Kevin Spacey, it's just loose change, at this point. throws people off track.

Verbal is off the boat, the whole time... this factor isn't made up, like it's implied... it's true.

Kobayashi using a brilliant con man, who looks like himself, was a sure fire way to keep everyone from the line-up, lined up... and to keep everyone guessing.

but you sir, get 5 shrooms.

i thought this was gonna be more bumbling.

(PS: i've been corrected. the first time watching i thought it was the obvious Verbal Kent. but upon second viewing i think both Kent and Kobayashi use the same myth, essentially, to pull off their crimes. who is employing who, is what i am now questioning)

wrong? you mean, right?

i said it's Kobayashi.

i thought it was Verbal too, like most people do, upon my first viewing. but no... it's not. it's clear as day, that it's "Kobayashi".

he's the only one who is real (drives up at the end; after Verbal's story) that has no "actual" identity, but is clearly interpreted into Verbal's story with a different alias.

plus, the damn fax looks like both Verbal and Kobayashi, they both kinda look freakin' similar.

Verbal was fudging all of the details of his story using names and what not that were right in front of his face, from that office.

yeah. the alias wasn't real... but the GUY (who is called "Kobayashi") drives up outside the station at the end, to pick up Stephen "Verbal".

remember?

confusing people for years to come. oh movies.

oh shit, the hair does look more like Verbal's though...

i don't think the damn writers even knew who Kaiser was supposed to be. ya gotta admit, they look kinda similar to each other, and to the sketch but hey, the sketch has got Verbal's hair.

that's so damn stupid. the anonymous character of "the lawyer" is so much more convincing then Verbal. why does Verbal set up this whole facade, yet put himself in the midst of it all, then somehow know that he's gonna be able to make up shit from a bulletin board?

just pointing out some oddities

because he is a con-man.

i personally am thinking that Kaiser really isn't real, anyways... that if the whole thing was set up by Verbal, then the Kaiser story is literally made up.

but you know, i guess it makes sense like i first thought, too... he gets caught lying at the end, because he couldn't have seen past the ropes, that Keaton was shot... and that he COULD be placed ON THE BOAT and not off, like he suggests in his storytelling.

but if the lawyer was Kaiser then it would make how Verbal was off the boat, watching, true... it makes it so that the sequence of events after the guy gets shot at the back of the truck, containing the money, and V's deduction that he's been killed, makes more sense...

there is more to this then just the movie being about Verbal/Kaiser. it's about the act of the heist, involving Kaiser, and possibly being planned by him. although i think it's someone else.

because he'd be fingered as Kaiser by the cops, and Kobayashi could use him as his fall man.

he gets out of the station with Kaiser's golden lighter and watch, which indicates that it's Verbal, you know, along with the removing his gimpiness as he's walking down to the car.

so yeah, most things point to him being Kaiser, but... why is the movie showing him off the boat the whole time as Keaton gets shot? why is he still near the containers with his sub-machine gun, when the midget guy gets shot at the back of the truck with a pistol?

somehow he would have had got dressed up in his fucking trench coat and hat, and gone to kill the dude at the truck, THEN hop on the boat, and set up Keaton to get killed.

THAT makes no sense.

it's showing the story he told, not what really happened

i got that the first time i watched the movie. i am just trying to interpret more in the movie, then the obvious. thanks for calling me dumb. that's not what this discussion was about, Prisoner. anyone who watched the movie would understand these points you've made. no offense. i can see you're just trying to answer some of my questions.

if one reads on they shall see a bunch of ideas; so skip to the end of the thread, if you're reading.

i will admit, though, the sketch fax looks more like Kent, but... fuckin' lawyer dude could have just combed his hair up and BAM, then Verbal (Stephen; whom actually HAS a real identity) looks like the lawyer.

Verbal Kent is too obvious, and there are clues that point to him being a fall guy.

that's funny though... either the movie is supposed to open ended; or the writers and director actually propped Verbal up to be Kaiser, when there is no clear answer... or Kaiser is literally a story; which would make sense too... because it's mentioned that he is not real, and then it's just a con-man and lawyer criminal working together... but that wouldn't explain the burnt Hungarian man naming Kaiser, and the FBI guy wouldn't be looking for him. (unless he knew about the "myth" himself)

most of these reason you've names as to why it couldnt be kent is exactly why
it was kent, it was so obviously him that everyone would expect it to be
someone else

not really. you can make someone look like someone else, genius. plus, you might have read that i already came to obvious conclusions the first time i watched the movie.

i might have just read too much into certain details, and with the lawyer as Kaiser, it still makes sense and you don't have to deduce that somehow the whole boat story is just shown as a fake set of scenes to fool the audience, which just cheapens the movie.

actually, if you can't see how the lawyer can be interpreted into story, then you probably suck at movies more. the fact is Kent would have had to been one stupid ass, to just make himself sit around the police story telling tales, when he could have just already gotten out of there, taken his six months for the guns, and then been done with his plan.

it's a thinkers movie. i see more plot lines, and Kent being made to just make up everything for no REASON; just makes the movie stupid.

oh well.

seriously, how does he kill the guy at the truck and then hop on the boat to set up Keaton?

Prisoner, can you explain, or are you just following the "official" story?

well, in that case... it's INTERESTING, at least, to see that Kobayashi is actually considerable for being Kaiser, with certain clues. the only thing that seems to keep me at a head, is the fact that Verbal simply doesn't "give back" the lighter and watch... which says to me... yeah, he might just be Kaiser, but... his "partner" at the end, could easily be Kaiser... except that Verbal (if he is Kaiser) is extremely brazen, for pointlessly sitting around in the cop shop to fuck around with them.

oh well. there are two players... upon second viewing, i thought it could have been a clever ruse to be the Lawyer, which in my opinion, would make the film all more fascinating and PLUS it would take out the plotholes; or in other words, stop the film from being a "fake" story.

but i guess you're right Pris. it's the obvious and Usual Suspect, Verbal.

(though his real name is Stephen; so why does he need the multiple aliases, and be a myth? he's got a name and a file. oh well, whatever.)

he kills the guy on the truck and then gets on the boa to kill keaton and then
burn the russian which is how the russian managed to give the details for the
sketch... another way, look at the very end at how kent smokes the cigarette

personally, i think that Kaiser might as well be Verbal, but fucker might as well be being used by Kobayashi... who cares if Kaiser has got the mythical status? does it?

he could be a really awesome resource to use by someone else other then who is fingered in the film as being the conspirator. i mean, the Lawyer could just be a co-conspirator, like it's not so eloquently told in the film. he could also be using "Kaiser Verbal" Kent as, simply, a fine criminal asset.

anyone willing to challenge this, feel free to discuss. the movie is known for it's strange plotholes... i don't know if it's all been looked at yet. (even thought some things might have to be assumed; as...) everything points to Verbal but... the Lawyer looks like Verbal, minus the hair; which is keyed in on in the sketch from the fax. which is pretty obviously pointing to Kent as Kaiser; but i still think that it might be irrelevant... and the that the Lawyer might have more to do with the "plan" as is pointed out in the film.

(PS: for all buffs, i am only re-iterating that the movie is open ended and that Verbal is obviously pointed out as Kaiser, but i will say... making up the "story on the boat" and making it seem like he stays near the container while he "sees Keaton getting shot"; has to be completely fabricated by him, and this cheapens the film to me; because the lawyer could have easily been more of a puppet master then implied in the movie. i mean, ok, so HE picks Verbal/Kaiser up? so it can be argued that he is a chauffeur... but that's the only reason to believe that he is not behind any of the planning? hmmm )
