2/0.5 Suboxone after 1200+ mgs oxycodone/day
    #17731581 -

Hi all!

Yesterday, my psychiatrist prescribed me Suboxone 2 mg with .5 mg of Naloxone. It seems I'm suffering from extreme Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. I checked into rehab in october 2012 - being addicted to opioids, benzodiazepines, alcohol (severe) and mirtazapine for over three years. I was taking over 15 OxyContin (80 mg) tablets, 7+ OxyNorm (20 mg) tablets, and over 10 different sorts of benzodiazepines (including flunitrazepam, bromazepam and triazolam) with a total equivalent of approximately 200 mg of diazepam each day.

In rehab, they immediately lowered my total daily intake to 240 mg of OxyContin (3 * 80 mg) and 100 mg of chlordiazepoxide (4 * 25 mg). I was given no substitutes whatsoever. I can tell you, withdrawal was fucking BRUTAL!!! I sincerely hope I will never have to live through such horror again.

Two weeks before I got admitted, my relationship of over four years ended, but I couldn't care less. All I cared about (and I still do) is my relationship with my medication (especially opioids). To this day, I miss my oxycodone/morphine/hydromorphone more than I miss my former girlfriend. I experienced so many withdrawal symptoms, I couldn't even tell what substance it was coming from anymore.

When the physical symptoms had passed (after about three or four weeks), the REAL withdrawal started setting in: boredom, apathy, suicidal thoughts and the overall feeling of having failed in life. All I thought about, was to hang myself - and I was extremely close to act on those feelings. Since then, I have relapsed (and I feel extremely guilty about it) and been in withdrawal again. The last OxyContin I took was about three weeks ago, if I remember correctly.

Yesterday, I met with my psychiatrist, who immediately told me I should have been put on a substitute on intake. She prescribed me Suboxone 2 mg/.05 mg. This dose seems rather low to me, considering the fact that my intake tended to be rather high, so I was wondering if this dose will help me at all.

I have read about the ceiling effect of buprenorphine, and my goal is not to get high of the stuff. I just want to feel normal again - if even remotely possible. I can get my Suboxone on monday (where I live, pharmacies or closed during the weekends), and I am really hoping that this drug can relieve me from my most severe withdrawal symptoms (the psychological symptoms, that is).

Thanks in advance!

It'll help. You are a high case for relapse so realistically you should be on 8mg at the minimum. Some is better than none. Maintenance is pure hell. It's a way to get the poison out of your mind to see some clarity but ultimately you have to kick it. Life on maintenance is really tough because as you said, apathy-boredom-suicidal thoughts. It's the same thing as getting high except you aren't getting high.

Honestly, I would rather get high.

But thank you for your reply, I'm not expecting miracles from the buprenorphine. I just hope to get back to feeling human again.

So would I, but that means death, losing my freedom, and losing all the people I love and care about, and self-loathing in a way I can't put into words. Once you accept that getting high can't be part of your happiness or who you are then you can start making progress. If you haven't let go of wanting to get high then stay on suboxone and get a much higher dose (8mg-16mg preferably). There is a difference between having a craving and wanting to  get high. I still have cravings but I recognize it as a physiological reaction. My mind and body might crave but my advanced cerebral cortex can tell me that it's just my limbic system craving dopamine.

Get active, don't eat shitty food, find a hobby, learn what makes you happy and work on yourself spiritually or else you're fucked.

I speak from 5 years of raging opiate addiction and nearly 18 months off opiates of all kind.

Hey bro, I just completed suboxone maintenance and in my personal experience... you need more than just 2mgs. of Suboxone to be on a "stable" dose.

I wasnt taking as much OC as you and I was on 12mgs of Sub a day.

I am not a psychiatrist but I've had friends on it as well and I am pretty damn sure you need a higher dose.
