Sushi roll appreciation and suggestion thread!

Headin down for some sushi in a bit. Always lookin to try new varietys of rolls. Anyone got any good reccomendations for me. This sushi place has a great predetermined list on menu of specialty rolls but I've tried most of them and best thing bout sushi is the fact that you can conjur up 100s if nit thousands of combinations to make a different roll. So if you are well versed in sushi rolls and wana hook a brother up with a description for a sushi roll recipe I can pitch to the chef it would be most appreciated. This could be a good ongoing thread for sushi conniseaurs. Also with enough reccomendations will give one a new roll to try every time. I will add myself some of my favorites. But you go first. Ready, set, go!

Hmmm.  Maybe my vegan girlfriend can try that.  However I'm all about a plethora of raw fish in my roll.

Vegas Rolls and Rainbow Rolls are always good :thumbup:



but sashimi is where its really at

I agree rainbow is probably my favorite. That is if you like fish in your roll, but it's not really sushi if there isn't.

I've found yellowtail tuna rolls are good they have a lot of flavor compared to other fish I think.

I also really like the traditional sushi with just the piece of fish on rice.

The philadelphia roll is good, it usually has salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber in it which is a bit different.

The sushi restaurant by me has a roll called the sunset roll. It has salmon inside the roll with cucumber and some spicy sauce. Then on top of the roll they put more chopped up salmon, significant chunks of crab, and fish eggs. It's seriously incredible.

Thing is with sushi is I've found a lot of places make each roll a little bit different.

I always usually have a few pieces of sashimi when I go out to sushi. But love me a good roll as main course. :shrug:  thanks though. Ima check those out

So Vegas roll is tempura?  Ill try it sometime but definitely more of a raw fan when it comes to rolls. California rolls bore me but maybe topped with some raw might be cool.  Fishing (no pun intended...hehe) for some more exotic random combinations here.  Lol.  beggars shouldnt be choosers but, hence i will.  Lol. Never liked the california roll either I always have to have raw fish in my rolls. That's why I like the rainbow one though because it's a california roll topped with avocado, salmon, yellowtail tuna, tuna, and another white fish I can't remember. It's definitely a good one if your a raw fish person.

Also Dirty Old Man: California roll topped with chopped tuna, masago, spicy sauce, salmon, white fish, yellow tail and krab meat!

Agreed as well as sashimi.  I like the combinations in rolls.  Especially the special sauces. However I always get a good chunk of traditional sushi and or sashimi with my orders. Nothing like a mouthful of fresh raw fish. So delectable.

Man,  fuck a bunch of fuckin' sushi.  Every time I eat it I end up pigging out and put on a bunch of weight.  I can't even look at it without gaining a pound!

Yellowtail is my favorite sushi fish. Also albacore and toro (fatty tuna).
Rolls, there's thousands of different ones at different places...
One place I go has my favorite - called the Vampire roll which is Albacore & Cucumber Topped with Albacore, Avocado, Garlic Chips & doused in Garlic Jalapeno Sauce.
So ridiculously fucking good. :drooling: It's just exploding with garlic goodness.

That's the thing with rolls though. What's called "Volcano roll" at one place, may be a completely different roll somewhere else due to the various techniques and endless variations.

I must ask, how is it possible to "put on a bunch of weight" while eating sushi? I eat tons of it, you should see me, I'm a twig.

Exactly my thoughts.

My favorite roll here is a 'Tejas Roll' that has jalapeno and goodness goodness. I also love mango and avocados in rolls.

Sounds like a winner. Jalapenos work real good in all kinds of rolls too

Yea i always thought sushi was decently healthy (excluding the fried stuff, but thats not really sushi)
