Funeral

My grandfather just died. I never really knew him, and the last time I saw him 3 years ago he didn't know who I was. Now my parents want me to go to his funeral out in Texas ($400) plane ticket. And I'll be staying with family that doesn't know my grandfather and aren't related to
Him at all. I'll see my grandmother one time at the funeral for two hours.. I don't really see any point in going after finding that and the 9 hours of driving ill be doing. There really seems like no reason to go honestly. My grandfather hated everyone, he beat my grandmother for years and was a terrible father to my mother and uncle. So what I want to know is why would anyone in my situation go... It's not like I'm even getting to see my
Grandmother for more than a few hour...

You never know when her turn to go will be :shrug: He may have been a shitty person, but if she loved him she loved him and is going to need all the comfort she can get.

If you have no problems not going, then why are you even considering it in the first place? I don't see why you should have to go just out of 'respect' just cuz he's family. I mean that regardless of what kinda person he was. He coulda been the nicest person and if you didn't wanna go, I'd still say the same.

I would assume your parents would be very disappointed that you didn't attend, money should not be a consideration in your decision.

Money should definitely be a consideration in the decision.  If I died I wouldn't want someone who can't afford it going broke just to come to my shitty ass funeral.

my sister is going so I'll get her to videochat me during the funeral. I'll have some whiskey (his favorite drink) and smoke a few pall malls (his choice cigarettes) to remember him by.

Unless my corpse was getting shot out of a cannon with fireworks I wouldn't expect people to pay $400 just so see my pasty face in a wooden box either. But to each their own.

If you don't think yo grandma is gonna be pissed you didn't make than save your money.
