I understand what you are saying about government funding the wrong things... but taking it to the side of  "we need less government reliance to stay the way we are" isn't the right path either.

bloated government is half of the problem with the waste. an example for the

'progressives', for every $1 that's distributed in social spending such as
welfare and food stamps the federal government spends $3 to deliver it to
those in need. that's the problem with big government so in fact we need
less government and less reliance on government

Quote:
you said that our economy is coming closer to that of Zimbabwe.  While that is a bit of extreme of an example there is nothing wrong with starting from the ground up with a new economy not based on money.  an economy based on the wealth of resources, knowledge and skill.

while you may need my expertise in concrete construction I do not need your
knowledge of apples or your abundance of tomatoes in order for you to retain
my services because your tomatoes will rot before I can use them to acquire
any goods or services that I may need

your ideas died out 1500 years ago for a reason

Quote:
and to be promoting a "private sector" means that you are not promoting resources, knowledge and skill for all but for those that qualify for the private sector.

where do you think all these resources, skills and knowledge comes from to
start with, do you honestly think that the government provides for us?

Quote:
we can take the analogy(and also as practical application as well) of building a bridge.  when going to repair a 100 year old bridge you can replace things one at a time, you can replace a bunch of parts at once or you can tear it down and build a new one.  we've been trying to find the right screw that fights our metaphorical bridge since the emergence of a global economy but to our avail we have not found it yet.  maybe something that holds it up temporarily but SHIT WILL CRASH
why not start from ground zero and build something with a plan, a plan to benefit all and not just the "screw companies" promoted by the "private sector"

your analogy really bows donkey balls, because as the government has deemed
it fit not just to repair the old bridge but to build a new bridge and that
new bridge goes to the middle of the ocean and stop dead, thankfully it was
only $10 billion for the small projects

And then there’s the fourth bridge, a soaring wooden arch over the highway. Problem is, the bridge doesn’t appear to connect anything at all. WTF?

If you’ve wondered about this mysteriously useless bridge, you’re not alone — it’s vexed Burlingtonians for at least a couple of decades. A Burlington Free Press article from August 19, 1991, bore the title “No one treads on Burlington’s bridge to nowhere.” Not much has changed since then.

The bridge was constructed at a cost of $379,400 in 1984, at the same time as the northern end of Route 127 that passes under it, according to the Free Press article. Why was it built? The short answer is federal law.

how can you say that landscaping companies aren't subject to contracts, funding and guidelines.

WHO CUTS THE GRASS ON THE HIGHWAY MEDIAN?

in my state and most others... the state maintains a fleet of machines and either hires employees who's sole job it is to cut grass and maintain these machines at an extraordinary cost in relation to the private sector or as in the case of my state, they use prison labor to operate and maintain the machines... we call them The Department of Transportation...

so what exactly was it you were saying?

do we wait for it to cut itself so the government don't have to have weekly maintenance contracts with landscapers?

what contracts?

restrict the ability of the private sector to do work and earn money without
any of the benefits of free government money?

maybe you should tell us what that law says

"that idea died out 1500 years ago"?  not really buddy its still in full effect in some parts of the world, and i can guarantee that these people are more emotionally and spiritually stable than most of the people living in the western world.

if the tomatoes rot before they get to you then don't trade your precious apples for tomatoes.  i believe in order for the resource based economy to work all food has to be produced locally.  what kind of dumb fuck would order 1000 tomatoes to travel across the country when they could have just grown them in their own backyard.

once you see knowledge as a real resource and money as a human construction with no real application, why would you want to stay with a money based economy?

YES I DO BELIEVE THE GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO HELP PROVIDE FOR US AS MUCH AS OUR FAMILY SHOULD.  When you consider that government, in theory, is supposed to be the "extended family" for those that don't have any it doesn't become to want a powerful government, because it should make every decision with best interest to the whole in mind.

What Im saying about the buses is that a private company somewhere has to build them. These buses need maintenance and they need to be replaced frequently, thus keeping the private company building them profitable.

I see, so the government contracts with a private company to build the
buses for a municipal transit line as opposed to spending billions for
manufacturing facilities and tooling that will sit idle for a years at
a time. in other words the government responded to the desires of the
people for a cheap means of transportation in large urban areas but
failed to respond in other areas since those municipalities tend to have
their own maintenance facilities

bus lines are typically started and maintained by a special local option
sales tax that the people vote for, it's not something that the government
just shat out as an alleged benefit to the people from the kindness of the
government's heart

The interestate highways are a must, trains and planes alone couldn't take it all. Also, think about it, the interstate highways feeds the oil company billions after billions of dollars, they make automotive companies live, which in term makes every suppliers of car pieces live as well.

if the automotive companies were thriving because of the interstate highways
then why did they need a bailout 4 years ago and why are they filing
bankruptcy now... seems your information is a little out of touch with reality

Railroads are there to carry cargo. There are buslines, and cars and airplanes to carry people around. Taking the train is a slow alternative (unless its like these japanese highspeed trains). Speaking of highspeed trains, I don't understand why there is one connecting Quebec City to vancouver to LA to Dalla to Miami conencting everything in between.

but the US isnt allowed to have high speed trains even though we have 3500
miles between the two coasts, even the railroads have speed limits, 59mph
for passenger trains, 49mph for freight trains and a maximum speed of 79mph
for trains without an  automatic train control system, even though no train
is allowed to travel that fast regardless since they either carry cargo or
passengers... seems kinda silly doesnt it

of course Obama said in his 2008 campaign that he'd change that

but then we can see it's another 'Obama' kind of promise

Investors make or lose money by investing into capital, which includes equipment, but more importantly humans with innovative ideas.

Making a profit is essential for a business to continue to exist, there is nothing immoral about it, how do you suggest to continue to run?

I highly suggest studying economic theory, if you are a communist then fine, at least admit it.

i think that you are thinking of co-operation in a competitive society... in a completely cooperative society people feel good for making a contribution.  and don't get jealous that the person next to you did more... because NOBODY IS BEING PAID AT ALL.  you both just get to live another day.  did you know you can feel successful and happy at work without getting paid? most people don't

lets take an example of finding a cure to an illness... in a cooperative society the scientific community would all come together and share research.  in a competitive society they keep all their findings secret until they can patent their discovery and make the money for themselves and their own company.
why do you believe that a "think-tank" or "group-think" is inefficient and unproductive in nature?

the reason that most people starve on this planet is not a lack of food.  it is a lack of cooperation by the people who have the food to sell it.  because guess what... if you can't afford it you starve and die.  why do people continue to think this is right?  a starving child shouldn't die hungry on a street because WE WANTED THE MONEY FOR THE FOOD AND THEY DIDN'T PAY UP.
children are starving to death because of our monetary based economy.  would you be willing to give up all your money and materials if you were promised that no more children died because of a lack of funds?
