oyster tek links please
    #1753069 - 07/27/03 03:31 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

hey all. a friend was kind enough to give me some oyster myc on agar (and some shitake on agar). i'm still a little confused. do i make grainspawn with these first, or are they not interested in grains? i have wbs, straw, bran, and poo. i don't have any woodchips or sawdust yet.

any good links to teks? i've searched the forums and growlogs, but no real gems yet. agar direct to straw sounds a little fishy to me.

any help gratefully welcomed. sk

lol - okay, i deserved that.

i've read em. trouble is, one link specifically says that oysters don't link grain as a substrate, but others say to make spawn. with what i've got, shall i just do a standard wbs spawn to straw, or should i seek out sawdust/woodchips?

I am using bran spawn. Oatmeal sawdust and chips.

Then I will spawn them to straw.

For the oysters just stick to straw, you can do grain jars of both species and use grain spawn to spaw the straw, which will colonise faster.
For the Shiitake, you really wont to make some sawdust blocks, or dowels and oak logs.

good luck, oysters do fine on grain ime.
