I wouldn't dispute that.  Both are correct. 

Take N-methyl-3,4-methylenedioxyphenylisopropylamine for example.  That's also correct.  It's a wonky way to say it, but it describes the molecule correctly, as is the function of chemical nomenclature. 

Chemical names tend to gravitate toward spoken efficiency.  Some people find N-methylamphetamine a more fluent amino-descriptor than N-methamphetamine, and vice versa.  No one's wrong either way.

Potāto, Potăto, Solanum tuberosum, take your pick!

Back in my day (the 80's were my 60's) when I first took it, it was called Adam or Eve. Then we just called it "X". Then the term disco biscuits came along, then rolls. I still just call it "X".

There are differences other than the methylenedioxy group as well.  They are subtle, but they exist, and there is no such thing as an insignificant difference when it comes to molecular configuration.

Which differences are you referring to specifically? As far as I knew the differences were just in the ring structures.

Very true.  Sometimes a chemist will obsess over it and drive themselves quite literally insane.  We saw a bit of that on Breaking Bad. 

Ultra-pure substances tend to take on curious and sometimes undesirable or even dangerous properties as well.  100% pure H2O for example, can be cooled as far as -42 degrees celsius without freezing, provided it remains totally and completely free of vibration or other disturbance.  So much as breathe on the side of the chamber, however, and you'll watch it turn to a solid block in seconds.  Bizarre.

A fraction of a percent impurity is actually desirable more often than not.  When it comes to street product, "pure" simply refers to the absence of intentional adulterants or shoddy synthesis.  When it comes to MDMA, a good synthesis will generally yield about 85% purity.  Higher than this, and it's coming from the vanishingly rare combination of superior equipment and superior talent.

I did not go to any gay bars or come out until the 90's. The scene in Dallas in Deep Ellum was very cool though. There was scene in Party Monster where they were all partying in a Uhaul outside a club and they drive to some other place. The guy Michael (the murderer guy) I think was at club S.O.A when I was there. I remember a Uhaul being there and picking up whoever wanted to go. I declined. But I do remember it well. I think it was the same night I was there and saw that. That may have been where they got the story from.

If I had been out and having fun in the clubs back then I would probably be dead right now.

yeah, it was called "x" when i started taking it in the early 90's. i didn't even hear the term rolling until i was in my early 20's hitting the clubs and raves again after a couple of years of break from all that.

i personally differentiate between mdma and "rolls", as the latter term seems to be loosely applied to pills with mdma-like effects. but like someone in this thread earlier mentioned, you really don't know what you have unless you test it.
