Fastest processor in the world $190 :P

hey guys/  Just found this out,  This amd FX-8350 cpu has the world record for 3d mark. it is the fasted oc recorded, with 8 cores @ 8.37GHz.

I'm sure it needs some good cooling to get anywhere near that but for $190 that's a pretty good deal :lol:  Thought ya'll would like that.

Actually ordering one of these on amazon morrow, for my mwll mapper friend.  Hes probably just gonna shoot for 5Ghz, maybe if I get him one of those all in one water coolers.  And I'll be getting 4ghz on his old quad core soon.

Is that faster than a 250,000 core Cray XE-6? You could save a lot of money!!!

I'm telling ya'll, amd rulez.  I got a pheonom ii 555 about 3 years back that was a 3.1ghz dual core.  I didn't get real lucky and get a stable 955 (quad) but lucky enough,  It has 3 stable core and is clocked at 3.5ghz with stock cooling (under 60c) (12 hours with prime95.  Now I'm giving that to my bro and getting a real 955 and mobo and hd 5770 for $150.

Next thing is to max them out with 16gb ram, sata iii ssd drives, better cooling for big oc and many video cards, for playing games probably for the next 5 years :laugh:.

And all that is not even that expensive if you shop smart and get some things used.

I thought the XE-6 uses off the shelf Xeon chips.  With many fewer than 250,000 cores per processor...?

Then I guess we were both remembering incorrectly. They use AMD chip sets in this one, and scale to over 1 million cores now.

OK, I guess my point was that Cray doesn't even make processors anymore, much less any with 250,000 cores... :S

Benchmarks or GTFO, having the highest clock speed and being the fastest are two different things entirely.

The boards used w/ 3dmark were socket 1155 and 2011 boards, both Intel... the graphics cards were AMD 7970s though :shrug:

If this is anything like AMD's last claim of fastest clocks in the world, they didn't even get a stable OC and they disabled several cores to do it.
Perhaps they got 8 cores at 8GHz but was it stable? Probably not if they don't have anything to back it.
CPU-Z screenshot means absolutely nothing without a stable benchmark to back it up.

Let's look at the current top benchmarks in the world

If you mean by 'processors' a packaged semiconductor device, then they actually never did. They used off-the-shelf chips from the very beginning.

These stats MSI posted are from contest that just comes from some CPU frequency ranking site.  If you look, two of the top 10 are single core Celeron D 356 processors from '06 clocked at 8.3ghz...  If you want to call those "the fastest processors in the world" too :goodluckwiththat:

And in other news... world's fastest clocked AMD chip on liquid helium still performs on par with an i7 @ 4GHz on air..

Well I was waiting for someone to say intel is better.  I guess theres no benchmarks to back it up or 3dmark... but I wonder how one of these would compare to a 1k+ i7, or even a their quad ones, if you spent the extra money on some good water cooling.

It kinda seams like saying 5xxx cards are better than 7xxx cards.  The latter ones are more efficient, prolly allot more overclock-able and cooler than 5xxx cards, but is it worth the huge price difference.  I would rather buy a gold efficiency psu and awesome cooling.

It seams like amd is usually one step behind plus 2 steps ahead with their expensive high-mid range processors, for some one like me :P
