While you were incubating...
    #1737946 -

Newb question here:

afoaf's jars have been incubating for 4 days now after being innoculated. They are at a steady 84 degrees, and are tightly sealed jars with tinfoil on top of it.

Once i begin to see some colonization (i have yet to check up on them), should i remove the tinfoil and allow the holes on the jar lid to show (i have a layer of verm on top by the way)

i heard some people loosen the jar, take off the foil and flip their jars....what the hell should i be doing? I am guessing i should not have them tightly sealed and foiled once mycellium begins to grown for lack of gas exchange...

My friend removes the tape from the needle holes at about 70% colonization.

Once jars have colonized to a point where they are slowing down, do whatever you have to do to allow air flow through the lid and not let contams enter and flip them to let CO2 flow out.

alright thanks guys...

guess the afoaf will just keep em sealed and tin foiled for awhile until growth seems to stall, then take off foil and flip

Here is my .02. I do not see the point of taping PF jars. I fill mine up, cover the tops in fool, and PC them. Then I remove the foil knock 'em up, and replace the foil. This method allow's for a bit of air flow without, opening the jars up to contams IME. I flip them after they just start to colonize the bottom. Giving them a smack when you flip them opens a bit of space up between the bottom of the jar and the cake, which seems to allow the bottom to colonize a bit quicker.

Here is what i would do. After a week or so when things start to pick up I'd gently take off the tin foil covers. Then if growth stalls I would flip them over onto a screen.
