I think one thing that could make this way better is working a bit on your note selection.

I like it

Also; if you criticize, you must post a recording of yourself :tongue2:

I swear you played.

Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

Either way, I said 'recording. Sexual ones work fine, but only if you're not in it and 2 hot lesbians are.

Yeah I've only been 'writing' solo's for about a week, but I think this is a decent accomplishment. I really like it, obviously it could sound more proper but that's boring :tongue2:

One of the best pieces of advice I learned from a music teacher, who was quite out there*, was something along the lines of in order to break the rules you have to be able to play within them. Take that for what it's worth.

*He did things like this:

But could also sit down at a piano and play the shit out of it if he wanted to (which he rarely did).

Think your soloing was much better than the rhythm section, how big is your repertoire? When soloing without a full band, doing your own thing, try playing the composition and soloing alternately (solo verse every few verses).
If you wrote that strumming section, I recommend learning more repertoire to get your melodic form up. Singing helps, and learning some classical pieces or Jazz/solos helps.

Think you're doing good man, just could use some work for your own sake and if it comes to it - competetive edge

Interesting you said my solo was better.. I thought the rhythm was perfect  Didn't mess up once, just some noise from shitty recording practices.

It's a loud rock and roll song.. melodic form?? Kinda confused by that.

I think we got different styles man but thanks for posting your music

And I'll never sing.

Keith Richards, Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Duane Allman

These guys all have a great sense of melody, the two essencial components of music are:  Melody & Rhythm

As a teacher, if I could only give a student one lesson I  would spend that time trying to convince them to learn to sing. Even if one doesn't sing during performances, not knowing how to sing (for the perspective it gives on music) is a major handicap

I have a shure-57 mic plugged into a tascam us-100 usb audio interface and do everything with audacity

about a $150 setup so it's not bad at all.. kinda tough getting clean sounds (you can hear all the static) but its good for what it is.

I guess I'm missing what you're saying. The song has melody (especially in the rhythm).. I'm not using fancy 11b9 chords or anything, its just rock n roll with a nice little hook and bridge:shrug: Melody's an afterthought (in this case) and built to accentuate the rhythm (which it does in my opinion).

Learning to sing and not having the ability are different things. I have a.. bad... voice.

And I'm not Jimi Hendrix or Duane Allman  This is 1 of 3 songs I've ever written, I think Jimi had about 200.

Do you have any real songs you've recorded? Your improv didn't really show much other then that you know some finger style and can apply it to a scale  I'd be more apt to hear what you're saying if you gave me something BY you and that has structure (not improv or a cover)

It was some pretty good shit. How long have you been playing? Also, are you self taught?
Did you use a looper pedal or was that through your recording program?

Thanks  I've been on/off for 4 years.. I should be better but work and school kicked my ass a lot of the time.
Self taught.. learned everything I know from Justinguitar.com & playing around to records
I have a looper pedal.. jam man 100.. didn't use it though. I did that through audacity. I added a 'phaser' effect to the first solo solo and then added digital echo to the 2nd solo which gives it the delay sound (which kicks ass I think)

once you get the shit let me know if you have any questions.. $150 aint bad at all though.. hardest part is figuring out correct volume balances and shit.

Im a big phish fan, but I can dig this.

I am absolutely obsessed with guitar. I just started playin about three months ago.

Im much better at learning Soloing than I am Rhythm, somehow im really good at naturally picking it up.
I havent learned shit about music theory and what have you yet so I have a ton of work to do (and im stuck with an acoustic, when im really adamant about electric) and I dont really know where to start.

Idk why I rambled  but my point is for some nice chill rock n roll I dig it and im envious of you.:noargument:

Edit: and btw ive always had some weird perverted interest in your avatar:datass:

I can't figure out how to 'remove' effects because I did something to make it sound like it was recorded in shit quality (it hits the rhythm hardest) so I wish I could get rid of that. i did a silence remover effect or something and it jacked it up but I can't get rid of it  probably just re-record it later.

Ive been playing for 8 years almost 9 now.

Over the years ive bounced around all kinds of different styles from Classic Rock to Metal. Now ive landed on Blues and Jazz.
Maybe ill just head over to my buddies recording studio and try to get some stuff done and put it up here.

I'm in love with the Dead. Never listened to Phish (I think I have a negative opinion of them cause I'm a dead fan :lol).

I hope you stick with it. it's fun and literally the only thing that relieves anger/stress. Check out Justinguitar.com, it's a fucking fantastic website ran by a fantastic dude (justin sandercoe) and 100% free with option to help support him by buying kickass products that teach you a lot.

i came more natural to playing rhythm and chords etc and learning soloing is a new battle for me.. but I've been doing transcribing and am learning a lot and also just playing to records and figuring out how to fix a 'wrong' note, etc. etc. I've gotten drastically better at soloing, i used to be pretty terrible (still am but better )

check that justin dude's "practical music theory" book out.. it'll teach you everything you need to know. fantastic book and it's only about $10 or $15 but worth it. check out his 'beginners course' if you want a nice play to start. he has an intermediate course too but best start at the basic.

everyone has a weird interest in my avatar

i liked my old one too.. i wonder if anybody remembers it.

Right on man, thanks for the tip!

I love the Dead too. The Phish - Dead thing shouldnt even exist.

The Dead played for reason and were always jamming for something.
Phish plays because they are geniuses of music theory and just love music and were inspired by the Dead and wanted to keep the jam alive.

Ill be sure to check that site out, Im determined to pick up an electric this winter break coming up and ill probably keep my acoustic around for playin around the fire or something.  I definitely like to play it I just cant wait to get my hands on something that screams.

Have you learned to play some Dead songs?
