I GUARANTEE you wouldn't say that to my face. Internet tough guy.

Haha oh snap. Brought the boy toy in.

No probably not. I'd probably share a blunt and some beer with you.

And I want a daughter because she will be truly my girl. It is not even close to the same thing.

Also, we can try all we want... But the end results will be like trying to see magnetic fields.

We don't have the emotion profoundness required to truly sympathize and feel your pain and tell you exactly the right thing.

If by any chance we do actually say the right thing, deep down inside we're saying to ourselves "awww yeah! I got lucky and nailed it!"

You're still asserting that men can only fake emotion and women are the real emotional ones. That's nothing more than an arbitrary socialization meant to keep people in their assigned societal roles. There's nothing that different in our brains that inhibits men from really feeling emotion and makes women overemotional. We both experience emotion pretty similarly and the way we express it is determined by the way society dictates it is okay for us to express it. Just because you've been taught to suppress your emotion doesn't mean you are biologically incapable.

I repeat: there is nothing in the male brain that hinders experience of emotion or makes males incapable of empathy. Both men and women have mirror neurons, the part of the brain that is believed to contribute to the feeling of empathy.

Male and females brains are as different as our physical body.

Yes men feel emotions. I cant deny that, just not at the same level.

Here's how I'll put this: men feel emotions as if they had 1 bong hit. Females feel emotions as if they had 4 bong hits. We both feel it, but women feels them more.

I'm surprised that you said that there's nothing different in our brains. All you have to do is observe the behavior of any 2 human of different sex and you'll see hundreds of differences

That's how men and women are socialized. Men can be just as caring and empathetic as women can be if they actually try to care about how someone else might feel rather than just falling into the notion of: man strong, woman weak.

Are you suggesting that there is only nurture to blame for this difference in gender, that nature has nothing to do with it?

I would imagine having different amounts of hormones between males and females to play some sort of role.

If a guy cannot be emotionally supportive of his girlfriend while retaining strength or "manliness" then he is evolutionarily behind. Or socialized to behave that way which would be indicative of the former.

This whole forum is pretty much a gentlemen's club already. I'm sure you've noticed the ratio of male to female members here. If anything, I think there needs to be a women's bitch fest forum instead, seeing as we're the under-represented sex here. :smirk:

And people wonder why more women don't participate in discussions here.

If he can do it for his child, why the fuck can't he do it for his wife/girlfriend, who he also supposedly loves and cares about?

Its not the same thing.

Child birth produces several changes into a mans brain. We become super protective of our kids because its our animal instinct to defend our kids until they can fend for themselves.

Wives and kids are a completely different relationship and an entire different aspect of a mans life

I understand that they are two different types of relationships, but family is family. Why should one give care and support to his child, but when it comes to his wife, who is also his family, its okay to just dismiss her as a bitch and not give a shit about her feelings? That just doesn't seem right to me.

You know. Men have come a long way to understand women.

We are a lot more receptive to the emotional side than our grandfathers were.

Technically, today's women are dealing with the best emotional version of men since the dawn of time.

Exactly. And that is what is being said. No one said female and male brains are exactly the same. What was said is that males have the capacity and the ability to evolve and be more empathetic.

PMS or not most women need to learn how to express what the real issue is rather than flipping out over something non related and then hope we (men and women a like) figure it out.

Its called throwing a tantrum cause youre in a bad mood and the only other people who do that are children.

Grow the fuck up and quit using PMS as an excuse.

No shit. Or look at Asian women. One of my favorite people at work is this little phillepino woman.

One day she says "all I see in the news is white and Latino girls being beaten, I think its because they don't know when to stop talking. "

Her husband died, and they were very happy. It makes me sad to think of it.

Unfortunately, "family is family" doesn't work that way in real life. It looks good on paper, but it isn't the same thing.

Kids are there for life, they are a part of the men. They have the same blood.

Wives aren't related like this. Love is a strong thing, but it cannot match up to the bond between kids and parents.

Some guy tells you he's gonna murder either your husband or your kid. And you have no choice.

Who's dying?

You'd share a blunt and beer with him because he has a dick but because I have a vagina you're being a raging asshole towards me because you've been brought up to believe that we're so different and I'm inherently a bitchy, overemotional know it all? Do you not see how arbitrary and ridiculous it is that you are trying to sum up a whole gender in a really negative way?

Your daughter will truly be your girl because you will let her. You harbor a hatred for women that keeps you from making a partner in a relationship "your girl" which is pretty sad. In our relationship I am my boyfriends girl by choice, which is a lot more profound and meaningful than your offspring loving you for raising and providing for them.

I didn't say there is nothing different. I said the differences are not inherent and biological but largely due to the socialization and development of each individual person. Many, many men out there are far more emotional than I am and many, many women are far less emotional than even the most stoic man. The differences between members of each gender are much larger than the average difference between a man and a woman's brain. In many societies where gender roles are reversed men are expected to be more emotional and women are the stoic providers, this shows that it's not really about the machinery in the brain so much as it is about the socialization that takes place from birth until maturation that is really difficult to reverse.

Everlong said:

I'm saying there are some inherent differences in the natural biological hormones and such but it's much more about socialization. See my above response. Men are taught to repress their emotions and women are expected to be overemotional.

Of course the male gender is supposed to be less emotional than the female. There's evidence of this in many organisms though there are also a lot of organisms where roles are reversed and the men are the caretakers. My point is that we're conscious beings and the biological differences are not so strong that you can't easily overcome them with a little thought and care on your own part. If you're going to argue that you can't overcome your own predispositions then you know little about human abilities and you're not really analyzing your own life. You can control your own biology, you know. You can choose when to go to the bathroom and you can force yourself to study when you'd rather be off drinking and eating to satisfy your animal instincts. We are conscious and sentient beings, go out and commit a crime and see if you can just get off because men are more aggressive or because your biology dictated that you needed to eat so you just gave into it and stole some food.

Enjoywho said:

I don't tell him to do anything you asshole. Stop placing your own shitty expectations on every single woman out there. We're all different just like men are all different.
