You've done the right thing, the blue cake indicated it is thirsty and having a bit of trouble getting sufficient moisture to pin and fruit like crazy.
the double end case may help revive them if its not too late. casing can be intimidating at first(and second...)but when it works youll be quite happy.
make sure your casing mix is good and there is enough to "insulate the cake"
try a full case eventually. it takes longer but is well worth it. to re-iterate a previous post, my first cakes were blu-ish like yours. averaged about 5 fruit per cake.
later casings averaged 20-30 per cake(either 1/2 pint or full pints)
it was obvious that they were happier.dont pack the casing,keep it open and porous...good luck
