lighten up man, graffiti is an inherent part of modern urban culture

The dealing of illegal and addictive narcotics is part of the modern urban culture as well, but I do not condone that. What about places that offer out payday loans with incredibly high interest rates?

I'm not going to lighten up about something that is illegal for a valid reason. You guys are holding these stances because you think it is cool, when the reality is that it directly effects tax paying citizens, the owners of property in that area, the owner of the property that was vandalized, etc.

But it's art, man

Do it on a canvas like the rest of them.

You just do not and never will understand the point behind graffiti.

that cliff side painting on the streets is amazing!

my neighborhood has both art on the sides of buildings, electrical boxes, alley ways which is bad fucking ass. but we also have interloping bastards who come downtown to act thuggy with all their homies and illegibly tag some clique on my block... one, i love to pieces and the other i stab to pieces.

Why not tape up a sign? Why not find a way around having to vandalize property? That is fucking evil to project something upon me that I don't want.

And who gives a fuck if they deface some rich companies property. Its not like the little bit it costs to clean it up puts a dent in the companies pocket. Its a very unique artstyle and it deserves no other place but the streets.

Oh great, yeah, "fuck those people who worked hard for their money." Why do you believe that the only places that get graffiti'd on are millionaire moguls? You don't think a mom and pop shop has been defaced by "art"?

This is creating a giant stereotype about where graffiti falls and it is far from factual. Most graffiti falls upon public property which COSTS ME MONEY and everyone else who pays taxes. From the way that you positioned your argument and the above quote, I would venture to say you don't.

"Fuck those guys because they are rich"
No man, fuck you. Those people could, and probably did, work very hard at one point to create businesses that they did. For you to say fuck em shows some serious maturity problems and a complete lack of respect for others. Absolutely disgraceful.

And btw people do graffiti on legal art walls too. It isnt all vandalism.

I've already addressed this, why do you insist on trying to belittle me like I am ignorant? Read my damn posts.

Like the 1000's of billboard ads that force their products on people without their permission?

They paid for the advertising space. The billboard owner and the owner of the advertising mutually agreed that his designated area can say whatever it would like, long as they are paying the bill.

Why do you insist on playing the card as though I am ignorant or can't understand? Rather than defend your stance on the subject, you put forth the idea that I like the basic communication skills to understand where you are coming from. It is very well understood what you are trying to convey from your points and I see your side, I just don't support a cause in which someone is getting fucked on one end. Just as I don't think it is right for a bully to pick on someone, I don't think it is right for some hoodlum to vandalize public or personal property. It is unbelievable that you profess a position that differs.

I didn't ask them to shove their product down my throat, and the artist didn't
ask if they could use there ad space, and the artists don't even have to pay.
Who's getting the better deal?

Mom and pop can't be rich?
Mom and pop are going to forever be barely making the bills?
So soon as mom and pop evolve to what you classify is rich enough that it will be a drop in the bucket, we are allowed to write all over their shit for the sake of expressing yourself?
You are still avoiding the issue of the tax payers money being wasted on graffiti removal. Money isn't imaginary, it is finite. I prefer not to waste my earnings on others lack of consideration and negligence.

The person performing the illegal act of defacing property in which costs money to the tax payers or the private property owner.

Next should we support terrorism?
But come on, these guys are expressing themselves the only way they know how, man.

You aren't arguing for creativity, you are in support of a senseless act that is synonymous with terrorism; unwanted graffiti versus unwanted violence.

It is unbelievable that after two pages, you still believe your cause is holy for the sake of the artist, when it fact it is still petty and childish disrespect of others belongings.

Once you begin to understand a sense of entitlement through the earnings of all your belongings, you will begin to feel differently about having your property disrespected.

No i'm arguing for creativity even if it isnt socially acceptable. It impacts just as many people in good (better even) ways then it does bad.

Rather than a silly graemlin, explain how they are different? Both acts are terrorizing someone or something, both are often unwanted by a majority of the population, both are motivated by selfish inhibitions, both show are great lack of consideration for others, both are disrespectful to society, both are disrespectful to the laws and authority, etc.

Is there any need to continue or do you understand yet the two are very similar?

This has become an interesting discussion. Valid points on both sides, I don't really know which I agree more with. I think that the best urban art, so to speak, tends to be the art that is allowed to be somewhere, murals for example. :strokebeard3:

Says who? Like I already told you, it lowers property values, it directly costs someone money, whether it be the tax payer or the property owner, it directly impacts the environment by presenting that area as though authority is much less strict or that crime is abundant. The lowering of property values often causes an increase in crime rates.
