Space heater drying
    #17073564 -

Okay so right now I am trying to dry shrooms with a space heater similar to this: http://www.furnacecompare.com/images/space-heater.jpg

and it seems to me that they are dry on the outside but on in the inside of some of the thicker ones they still kind of squishy or almost rubbery.  Should I cut the inside open to help dry it out or should I leave it be and let it dry longer? Right now its at 80 degrees and its right in front of the space heater on a mesh rack.

They're not done drying until they are cracker dry, which means completely inflexible... where you could crumble them into a powder if you wanted. Cutting them open could speed things up but it shouldn't be necessary. If that space heater doesn't have a fan in it, using a fan too could help speed things up.

I always dried mine on a fan for 2 days then in the oven in the lowest setting with the door closed 20 min at a time.

then I stored with desiccants in jars

time consuming and cheap but highly effective.

I just didn't feel like explaining the huge dehydrator I seemingly never use, or why no one can borrow it lol.

Heat is no good to dry mushrooms.

If what I was told is correct then heat will degrade the Psilocybin.

The best drying method to keep maximum potency is to let them dry in open air or with a normal fan.

Heat above 260F, a space heater is fine.

The effect of heat on potency is over-inflated.

Tearing the stems open lengthwise into (basically the smallest practical size, depending how big the stem is to begin with) is a great way to speed drying.  Plus, your shrooms look like alien octopi.

I've come to the conclusion that the best way to preserve potency is to dry the mushrooms as quickly as possible. If that means using reasonable amounts of heat then so be it.
