Has anyone out there ever seen a space heater with a thermostat? I need something to keep my aquariums at a consistent temperature.

Scroll down till you get to the "seedling mat thermostat" I use one of these with a heaing pad under a rubbermaid container. It works great..... you plug the heating pad into it and the thermostat and it has a sensing probe which you place in the terrarium and then set to the temperature on the thermostat.... $40 bucks but well worth it i think. here`s the linkhttp://www.charleysgreenhouse.com/propgte5-mats.htm

A thermometer with a sensor on it? Thanks for the input but I dont know what your talking about. Thermometers dont turn on and heat up the room. Numba9 Ive seen those before and they kick ass but are not what I need. I am building shelves with space for about eight 10 gal. tanks and that would be to expensive and too many cords to plug in. What I need is a small space heater with a thermostat; my grow area is too small to put it on a timer (I would end up scorching em) 74-78 degrees is a pretty small temp range and in such a small space I need something that will run a minuite or two and shut itself off as needed. If anyone has something like this or knows where to get one, hell if you even know they exist please let me know.

I didnt realize they sold just the thermostats. Problem is it would be a little bit too much $ to have to buy that and a heater. Also I dont think that it is rated high enough for a heater; arent most heaters 3 prong anyways. That would be too much of a fire hazard I think.

I have never seen those before. You plug the thermometer in between the heater and the outlet and it shuts the heater on and off as needed? Do you have any idea where I could find one of those?

It is 500 watts max...... most space heaters are more than that I`m sure.. misunderstood about how much space you were talking about...........

hey chemical lets say you have a closet that youre not using. you could buy a little space heater from maybe wallys or kmarts, nothing to technical, just maybe 500 watts or less (if they make any??) these space heaters have a temp setting on them so they dont over heat or cook you (meaning they turn themselves off and on according to the temp setting to keep it as constant as possible). put your space heater on a pan off the floor, make sure its not touching any walls, put your thermometer outside the closet so you can monitor the temp. adjust your space heater accordingly to the temp that you are reading on your therm. once you get this established, you have a nice growing chamber where you can incubate many specimans. the insulation surronding your closet helps tremendesly(sp?) and to keep eyes away from the experiment, you can change the lock on the closet. this is what a friend of friend does, the only way i know is because his closet is locked and i can see the thermometer and i hear the heater, but maybe i just dreamed this all somewhere...

You could use the thermostat listed in that link and then
use a 300 or 500 watt quartz halogen floodlight from
Lowesfor $9. You'd be surprised how much heat they
throw off. They also make something called a "line voltage
thermostat". It looks similar to one on the wall for a
central heat unit but is rated for a heavy load. My catalog
list a manual 40-80 deg w/3deg diff, 22 amps, $19.44 and a
digital 40-90 deg w/1 deg diff for $40.73 It's through
Johnstone Supply. You need your thermostat up near the
shrooms. If it's on the heater and the heater gets an unusual
cool gust the heater could flood closet with heat. Since heat
goes up it would really have to be warm in there before a
thermostat is satisfied on the floor. A cracked door could
cost you your crop. I work on heat for a living, can you tell?

I bought a small space heater at wal mart for 20 dollars. It does have a variable heat setting on it. Its just a nob that you can turn clockwise or vice versa. What I do is use a thermmeter to check the temperature and fiddle with the settings untill its at the right temperature,.
Now in my case I heat an entire, so my space heater kicks on and off about every 10 minutes, so it keeps the temperature within a 2 degree range.
The only thing I dont like about it is it puts offf dry heat, thus lowering the humidity level of your ambient.
Noe personally I have had some problems getting my terrariums humidity up to par, and I havent quite figured out what the problem is yet. But the fact that the humidity in the room is so low may be it.
My terrarium is a rubbermaid container with perlite, so its not airtight.

Let us know how it turns out.

If you truly want a "space heater" I HIGHLY reccomend an electric radiator. (sometimes used in small shed-type bud grow rooms) Wallmart sells a made in USA model for about $40.00. It appears to be a small radiator (has metal fins full of oil). They use much less electricity than a regular electric space heater- the heating element only needs electricity long enough to heat up the oil inside. The oil reminds hot for some time, thus heating the air for long periods of time without pulling any electricity. The thermostat turns the heating element on/off to matain the ideal temp. Highly recomended. (The USA models are best- much safer that others)

Of course. They just about all do. Their not marked with actual temperatures but you can figure it out

Try using a thermostat and a light bulb for heat. Put a dummer switch on the lightbulb and you can dial it in just right.

Better yet, use several small bulbs on the same circuit for evenly distributed heat.
