Jui-Jitsu
    #16924072 -

So my Pops owns a mixed martial arts school. He's a blackbeltin Jui-Jitsu. I always loved it as a kid but as I advanced through my adolescence, girls and drugs always seemed to get in the way.

recently I have considered getting back into it. I can take free lessons and my Dad would be very up for me training with him again.

The only problem is that when your dad owns the school that you train at. . . the pressure is on sometimes. i just feel bad when i have to miss a class every now and then (im sure he doesnt feel as bad as I do)

Anyone else train in this martial art? What you think? {(According to my dad and a few others, I'm a natural. Won a couple Gold medals in my early teenage years (Now I'm 22 :smilingpuppy:)}

I made it to the 3rd belt, 1 stripe in Karate when I was a kid... I was thinking about getting into it again for the hell of it.

Not interested in competition fighting, but just for discipline and skill.

I've been studying various martial arts for 20 years now (I'm only 25 so not too much older than you) and I do have a black belt in ju-juitsu... my question for you is, what style? is it Brazilian or Japanese ju-juitsu. And second what are you trying to get out of martial arts? depending on what you want to get out of it will determine which art would likely be best for you.

ground skills are good, unless you are fighting multiple opponents, in which case it will get your face stomped in while you're rolling on the ground.

I'm a stand up striker through and through, I will do everything possible to stay on my feet.

jiu jitsu/wrestlers, if training for self defense, are missing that critical element of realism in a real fight where anything goes. If you are laying on top of me trying to cave my face in with punches, you better believe I'm going to bite you, gouge your eyes, punch your nuts, break your toes, etc.

If I could take some Jui Jitsu classes for free I'd be all over that right now.

Been doing Judo since I was a kid but not lately due to lack of income.

i liked to throw boxing gloves on with my friends and beat each other up in the backyard.

thats about all the fighting skill i have. its crazy how many people out there are trained fighters these days, due to UFC and such.

Which means you should probably concentrate more on becoming a trained marksman.

UFC is weak. Too many rules. When I used to watch fights it was all about Pride. By and large many people are sheep and there aren't many skilled fighters or adults who've even fought, ever.

I still got blown away when I read about the record for longest sniper kill. 2.47KM. When your taking a shot so long that you need to start calculating the ROTATION OF THE EARTH! into your aiming then you are doing something very very right.

Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute or an hour or a day or even a year but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.

the traingina goes much deeper as y'all would claim.

My Dad has told he has profoundly improved a few od his student's live through his school. not to mention he owns the number one school in MA (competetition wise)

I think I'll do it.
Training is almost a way od meditation. I've got a new job that gives me mondays off.. Lets have a go.

I'm not personally too big a fan of Brazilian, but as I said it really depends on WHY you want to study martial arts. If its for the sport or for fitness then Brazilian would be a great choice. If your looking for something more spiritual, to promote discipline, or for practical combat skills then you might be better looking into a different art.

That being said, free lessons are free lessons and ANY training is better than nothing. I say you should keep right on at it, if you feel guilty about missing classes maybe sit down and talk to your dad about it. I'm sure he would be completely understanding and would prefer getting the chance to train with you once in a while rather than not at all.

He's trained many fighters. You've maybe even seen his face in Las Vegas a couple times on the UFC pay per view.

he owns a small school in (randomly) Townsend, MA.

I think I should get back into it. Not for sport, just or pleasure. . .and spiritual growth?
