"I have no way of knowing whether you, who eventually will read this record, like stories or not. If you do not, no doubt you have turned these pages without attention. I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

You shouldn't be an asshole to motorcyclists. They have a much higher chance of splattering all over the pavement. You should always pay attention.
When I see them coming in traffic behind me while lane splitting, I'll inch over a few inches to give them some extra room.

Choosing to drive a vehicle that offers you personally better protection in a crash really doesn't in itself make you a responsible person. By that logic, Hummer drivers are some of the most responsible people on the road because they have a huge mass of metal keeping them protected (which of course just means that anyone they crash into is more likely to get injured instead of them.) That's not responsibility, it's self-interest. Really it's your driving habits that make you a responsible driver or not. A responsible driver is always aware that making even a small error could kill another person.

Lol funny how you're trying to turn this around.  I have no problem with people riding motorcycles, I just don't like it that some expect me to be extra cautious in my driving on the road for their sake.

Your "intelligence" seems to be quite low...

Give me a break. You're being cautious for everyone's sake not just theirs but yours too, and everyone who happens to be driving around you as well. That's driving 101. You must be new.

You give me a break.  You as well as a few others are trying to paint me as an anti-motorcycle advocate, or some stuck-up overcautious twat, or something of that nature.  If you hadn't intentionally tried to take my argument out of context, then we wouldn't have gotten this far.

All I said was that you are accountable for the elevated risks you take, not me.  Yes, you have to be careful when driving, period.  But when a motorcyclist is involved extra care needs to be taken, and that responsibility relies on the motorcyclist, not the other drivers.  We are not obligated to tiptoe around you so that you can have reckless fun without getting hurt.

This does not mean I am some uptight squash who locks himself in his room all day because he's afraid of going out into the outside world and getting hurt.

Self-interest and responsibility are not mutually exclusive.  Often times, being responsible means looking out for your own-self interest and not looking to other people to do it for you.

Just because someone buys a safer vehicle doesn't mean they are more responsible, you are right.  Some people might buy a hummer because they like how it looks, rather than the safety ratings.  And they may drive like morons.  But taking vehicle safety into account does help.

But like I said for the 1000th time, I have no problem with anyone that wants to ride a motorcycle.  Just know that the extra precautious needed for your own safety are your responsibility, not everyone else's.

Yeah, I mean if a motorcyclist (or whoever) is zipping through traffic and breaking laws, sometimes there's not going to be much you can do to avoid a collision with them even if you are doing everything you're supposed to. Honestly I think you're mostly getting flak for mentioning that you were going to run the red light. He may have been breaking the law too by speeding as you suggest, but the situation would never have come up if you had just waited for the light. Which is not to say that a lot of other people wouldn't have done the same thing if the light was taking a really long time and they thought it was going to be safe, but it's still breaking the law and potentially putting others in danger.

I guess my point was that a 'safe' vehicle for the driver and passengers can sometimes actually be more dangerous to everyone else, especially if that safety is mostly a result of just having a lot of bulk. The law abiding motorcyclist is putting others at risk far less than the law abiding hummer driver IMO, although his own safety is obviously considerably more at risk.

Personally I think roads could be a lot safer if the heaviest vehicles (e.g. 18 wheelers) didn't share the road with other vehicles very much of the time at all. If that were the case, I think you'd start to see fewer people buying over-heavy vehicles for personal safety. Same goes for bicycles, I ride my bike on the road because I have to but I'd love to see 100% separate bike lanes everywhere.

Yeah I'd agree, but then again there are commercial roads and things like that that are only used by 18 wheelers.  And I take full responsibility for the fact that I was going to run the red light.  I guess it just kind of felt wrong that he was flipping me off and giving me a smirk as he zoomed past at a speed he shouldn't have been going.

Extra precautions should be taken by drivers as well. Because it's retarded idiot drivers that don't pay attention that are usually lane changing into bikes and clipping them off the road or throwing people into the pavement because derptard car driver can't even bother to look before changing lanes, or just derptards in general that don't pay attention to their surroundings and cause accidents.

He probably flipped you off because you inching forward crossing a red light.. caused him to have to swerve slightly to avoid smearing all over your windshield. He flicked you off, big deal.
Get over it. Your hurt feelings vs his brain all over the pavement.
