SENOR CAFES
DONKEY MANURE CAMBODIAN MONOTUB

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overview:
The idea to use Donkey Manure was on a whim. i had originally gone out after it rained to look for my fungal friends and then I was going to do two coir monotubs but i stumbled upon some "horse" manure. After romping around collecting cool stuff i rolled up on 5 beautiful ladies. they all gave me a wee shnaw and the donkeys tromped away. i knew i had to fill my garbage bag with this donkey dung, and now as my spawn finishes up i prepare for my first manure grow, supplied by my trusty donkey steeds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Culture overview:
My very first Pf tek grow i ran cambodian MS. and i forever fell in love with their phenotype, through out my noobie past i lost my culture. but a very caring member traded me a print and so i decided to make a master slant.

in front of my flowhood i transferred and transferred three spots on each dish each time. im currently on my 5th plate and only need one more to go. but during the plate 4 transfer to plate 5 i cut one of the 3 inoculation point cultures into a wedge and started my grain master. after 8 days a G2G transfer was preformed to form 16 quarts of spawn with a 100% success rate.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Substrate:
65% donkey manure (someone was eating oats)
30-33% vermiculite, coarse
2-5% worm castings. mud sticks a pebble or two and i dont know where he went but i had a dung beetle in my bag when i left the field.(some nuggets of manure were dirty) and gypsum

i ended up making it 50% manure 50%verm because the above just didnt feel right after preparing it. i added 1/4 cup of worm castings (i had more to use but my pineapple plant really wanted them more) no gypsum as im to broke to get any supplies and or materials
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
here is a rough chronological order of what went on

20 plates were poured in sterile conditions (inside my spawn laboratory in front of the flowhood) using FDA M93 MEA.
three points were inoculated onto 2 plates with a spore print. (note here i dont have 100$ for the petris i want.... Glass pyrex. so i use half pint mason jars with a 1/4 inch hole in lid and a SFD over top)
the best looking sectors were taken from both plates (2 from one and 1 from the other) and used to inoculate three spots on plate 3
    SECTOR
on plate 4 it seemed 2 of the spots had two sectors and one had three
transferred one whole culture that had two sectors to a master grain jar made with Rye following normal rinse soak boil technique
then the other 2 sector culture inoculated plate 5,
a G2G transfer was preformed to 16 quart rye jars

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the Donkey manure has been secured!

i did not want any no no in the donkey dung, seeing as i had an array of nuggets, so after breaking it i fanned it for 24 hours after 4ish hours in the sun
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grain doing her thang (i took random pictures when ever i thought of it)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
pasteurize yo
get the kitties out of your mycology stuff!
(warning do not use your shower curtain rack to hang heavy shit, i re-enforced mine to clean animals and such and now to hang pasteurized substrates)

then mixed into a monotub with 7 quarts of spawn.
the spawn finished up before i mixed it in, i like to get my spawn acustomed to temps light etc for a few days before mixing it in. i ussually like to give 4 days of consolidation too, but im on time constraints right now.

(ill note here that i used an extra jar to do a miniSGFC a few days before to practice pasteurizing and then i used the last(16th) spawn jar and the left over Substrate to make a outdoor bed under a bush.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
set everything up get the timer going and leave it alone
leave it alone

did i mention to leave everythang alone!

sadly i cant get my 6500 CFL to the bottom tub, hopefully the window sunshine will help the bottom tub. if i had the financial availability id get a strip flouro and place it vertically on the window side of the tubs.:ohwell:

except for that dont leave that alone

id like to thank the shroomery and all the awesome members here!

all updates from here on out will be in the thread

thanks everyone:thanx:

today i got ahold of some black duct tape, and i used the whole roll:eek: to suppress the side pins
the very middle of the bottom tub didnt get taped, so i could tape over the top ones saran wrap border. so i placed it on some wood

the Rye spawn has taken off and i assume tommorrow the mycelium will start its trek into the substrate world

pics are fuzzy... hard to take pictures through plastic and then through condensation, but the more pics the better right?:awesomenod:

heres the miniSGFC/mono thingie (idk the real name DOCT has the gnads for this set up though. id say im at ~75%.

my updates wont be on a schedule ill just post when something is going on or i remeber to do so

till then :hatsoff:

hey i have a question....
so you cant see it in the pics but i placed two holes on the long sides sub level and then one hole on the short sides SUBSTRATE LEVEL
ive been going back through TL's ohmatics and many other monotub logs and even though i looked at these before makeing these tubs i didnt place the side holes high up as shown here
:homerdoh3:

Quote:
a.Remember you want your lower Holes @ substrate depth. So if you have a 1” bit & want the hole bottom to be @ 4” you should mark @ 4.5”.
b.Also, I place my holes 5-6” from the sides of the tub.
c.The End holes Don’t matter that much, you just want them as High as you possibly can get them.

:homerdoh3:

errr i figure im gona be fanning:shrug: or will it do just fine?i understand that fresh air comes in through the lower holes following the hot moist air and exiting the top holes. the lid doesnt make a seal but you cant feel warm air moving out of it (like when you open a tub or FC).will the lid be loose enough for hot air to escape drawing fresh air in?

i wont fan until i see probs occur i feel as itll be fine but want to get some input:thanx:

if thangs go real wonky ill end up drilling holes towards the top. my original holes are 2 inch diameter 2 on long sides one on short substrate level

:strokebeard:

im gona let it colonise consolidate wait for a good number of pins, then fruit as normal. only fanning misting IF needed and if it slows down way to much then ill go to emergency plan c and drill holes along the top

now we play the:waits: game (except with a smile not a grumble face :P )

last night i checked my tubs and found unbelievable amounts of cobweb!:mad2:
i H2O2 ed the fuck out of both tubs

tub 1 this morning now has a yellow powder mold:mad2: and so i cut the middle out and bleach all un colonised areas (it seems the middle stalled:sad:)

tub 2 (the bottom one) this morning still had cobweb but h2O2 seems to be keeping it down the 6500 k is now over this tub and im sure itll recover.

tub 1 ill probably throw out by the weekend unless my amputation works

im so very berry sad right now, but live and learn and better luck next time. ill will be moving soon so after i settle in itll be donkey dung V2

BUT
the mini SGFC/mono appears to be knotting. i had it completley out in the open, and this morning i returned to a trash bag to try to up the CO2 for a better pin set, i remove the tub and mist then place it back into the bag once a day around noon.

ive never done it this way and would appreciate some tips tricks and advice

oh an i assume i over pasterized my sub although the thermometer read correctly ill be pasterizeing my sub from now on in polybags.
