Going to be in Wisconsin this weekend, What Beers Do I need to Check out?
    #16438227 -

I'll be chilling in wisconsin this weekend with a bunch of good friends. Curious to hear if any midwestern people have any good recommendations.

I enjoy india pale's that focus on flavor rather than burning your taste buds off with potent hops. Lagers and Kolschs are good too. I really like all beers but in the summertime I don't think anything besides ales and lagers will be refreshing.

What say you all? what are the must drink beers of the great state of wisconsin?

I'd go with a 24 pack of Miller Lite.  Those cans got the new punch top lid it's legit.

New Glarus Spotted Cow for sure.

Central Waters, if you can find it.

Capital Brewery has some pretty decent beers that you should be able to find in the southern half of the state.

Leinenkuegels is pretty good, too.

Ooh, and with your like of IPAs...try Point Brewery's 2012 Black Ale.  Super hoppy dark ale.  Really unique flavor.  Not at all what you would expect.

Leinenkuegels is pretty solid, depending on what you are looking for. I enjoy a Summer Shanty on a super hot day...not too many though its kinda a chick beer.

Nice, i have heard of the new glarus spotted cow from some other people too.. I'll have to find that one. I'll see if I can find the others too..

i'm particularly interested in this milwaukee's best

is this some sort of new craft brewery in WI? Sounds like a light hoppy double stout imperial mind melder? I know you're not supposed to ask but what's the proper dosage of this beast?

Depends on where you're gonna be.

There are like five pretty good breweries in Milwaukee.

New Glarus is awesome and you should you be able to get it anywhere in Wisconsin.

Stay away from Milwaukees Beast if you're looking for a craft beer.

As mentioned, New Glarus Brewing co, Leinenkugels, Point, and Capital Breweries all make a fine product.

And Im pretty sure most offer tours.
New Glarus is about 30 mins north of the IL line, towards the Western portion of the state, Capital is in Madison, Point is in Stevens Point and Leninies is up north somewhere.

Edit...if youre approaching from IL, say I90/39, detour to Monroe and eat at Baumgartners and pick up some cheese anywhere in the city. Its the cheese capital of a cheese state, so you know its good :awethumb:...and since youd be in Monroe already , New Glarus is just down the street

If youre taking that route, exit Hwy 81 in Beloit, follow Milwaukee rd around the bend, itll turn into White ave, go across the river, right on 4th st, left on Liberty, follow 81/11 to Monroe...profit!

I like 2012 black ale, but never thought of it as being real hoppy. I second the central waters stuff, I like their glacial trail IPA. Oso's hopwhoopin' is one of my favorites, but if your looking for balance, it's probably not right for you, when I pour it in my glass it smells like I'm mowing my lawn.

we wisconsin kids call milwaukee's best 'beast' because of its terrible reputation as what they put in the cheap keggers for college kids.

Id go with the new glarus. Some of the sweeter leinies are good as well.

All of those weird flavored Leinies are terrible.

Berry and Honey and all that nonsense.

Yuck.

I can drink about a half of either of them.

Lakefront, in Milwaukee, makes a bunch of awesome beers.  And the tour is pretty legit also.

But I don't know that they sell their beer very far outside of Milwaukee.

I'm surprised how many people took me seriously on the milwaukee's best.

Just got back from the trip up to wisconsin and let me tell you it is beautiful up there in the summer time! Great weather, great people, and drank a shit load of New Glarus all weekend. My particular favorite was the Moon Man pale.

Thanks for the ideas everyone, hope to make it back up to wisconsin again some day

Is Wisconsin still known for good beer?  I thought that was a hundred years ago and all they made nowadays is watery lager.

The PNW is where I think of craft brews being made.
