Buying my first Brew Kit
    #16197211 -

any favorite recipes?  This will be my very first time brewing and see myself doing this for the rest of my life.  I can't believe i have never done this yet.

I like a good wheat/weizen/belgian/or american logger

p.s.  is there an official brew post?

sweet.

Do a belgian trippel. :homerdrool:

They are a little advanced in terms of skill, but I did one my second or third batch and it was good.  You can get kits like this one that I did.

Man, one of my dreams was brewing and perfecting my own style beer. And I also wanted to start making wine as well, since my grandpa has been making his own since 1990 and I shit you not, his elderberry wine is literally the best wine I've ever tasted. A wealth of knowledge there.

But now that I'm sober, I guess I'll have to find another hobby.

Same thing happened to me when I played Neil Armstrong in Moonshot. They found me in an alley in Burbank trying to re-enter the earth's atmosphere in an old refrigerator box.

Lager is really hard to do.  It takes extra equipment that beginners usually don't have and really don't need.  There is nothing you can't do in the ale world that won't satisfy you.  Lagers are just more of a challenge I guess, and gives a little variety to those who like to take the hobby a little farther...

This is really cool.  Hops grow really well in my area.  It would be cool to add that personal element.  Homegrown Hoppy homebrew

hops apparently grow really well in most areas, the south east is an
excellent climate for hops, this year seems to be rather dry though

I'm in hops country.  Commercial hop growers are everywhere.  You can spot hops in people's back yards growing all over town.  I kinda want to go ask them what they do with them?  Can I get some?

I've been checking prices and for organic hops the price can go as high as $25/lb... almost like buying drugs

That's a lot of hops though.  Their price is pretty volatile sometimes.  I remember a hop shortage a few years back.  Not only were they expensive, but brew shops would limit the amount they let you buy so you could only do small batches.

for me it'll be at least 3 years before I have enough to sell which kinda
sucks, germination on seed will take me a year, once I get some decent
rhizomes I can divide them and double production

A dollar an once is a good deal.  I think I pay anywhere from $3.5-$6 depending on what variety I am buying.  I know a guy who grows bulk for breweries here in Idaho.  I think he's doing well.  He offered me a bail for a good deal.  But what the fuck am I going to do with a bail of hops?

Make sure you subscribe to Beer Advocate if you haven't already. They have forums, beer ratings, gatherings, and you can read some of their back issues online.

Very informative for the beer connoiseur
