"The study by the new McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum found that 22 percent of Americans could name all five Simpson family members, compared with just 1 in 1,000 people who could name all five First Amendment freedoms."

Post more studies of the same :smile:

"When NEWSWEEK recently asked 1,000 U.S. citizens to take America’s official citizenship test, 29 percent couldn’t name the vice president. Seventy-three percent couldn’t correctly say why we fought the Cold War. Forty-four percent were unable to define the Bill of Rights. And 6 percent couldn’t even circle Independence Day on a calendar"

I feel like the self loathing urges of American's are our biggest flaw. The reason the constitution is written down and reprinted over and over is because people do forget it from time to time. If we were expected to memorize the handshake for a fraternity or the password to a speakeasy then the constitution wouldn't be written down, imo.

" In March 2009, the European Journal of Communication asked citizens of Britain, Denmark, Finland, and the U.S. to answer questions on international affairs. The Europeans clobbered us. Sixty-eight percent of Danes, 75 percent of Brits, and 76 percent of Finns could, for example, identify the Taliban, but only 58 percent of Americans managed to do the same—even though we’ve led the charge in Afghanistan"

Identify the Taliban? How so? You can create a "study" to return whatever results you want.

Taliban members are identified by brown skin, a head scarf, and a fearsome, anti-American snarl.

...except when they look just like everyone else, which is often the case at airports.

Fundamentalist Muslim movement who's militia gained much control of Afghanistan in 1995.

I think they meant to define them, not actually identify members of the Taliban...

Quote:
On the eve of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth, a new Gallup Poll shows that only 39% of Americans say they "believe in the theory of evolution," while a quarter say they do not believe in the theory, and another 36% don't have an opinion either way. These attitudes are strongly related to education and, to an even greater degree, religiosity.

We didn't. It was basically a competition to be the superpower.

Who had the better life the kid who lived life in the jungle having a blast with his family, or the nerd who studied and went to school learning things that dont matter? I would rather have a good life and experience than to know worthless shit like the amendments like said above.

Something there is mysteriously formed,
Existing before Heaven and Earth,
Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.
If forced to give it a name, I call it
Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

According to a Gallup poll in 1999, 18% believed that the earth was the center of the universe.

Just found that. :highfive:

You won't learn this shit in school.

You need to learn to think for yourself.
