Good music to meditate to
    #16108102 -

Been digging "Gothic Archies" and "Sigur Ros" lately for the moods they provide but I'm open to anything.

I have found silence to be best for me...
Enya is a favorite for relaxation though

Classical music is pretty awesome, ambient stuff, but not like aphex techno, I just meant ambient, atmospheric sounds and the like. I've actually been thinking of throwing together like 10, 20, and 30 minute tracks of just really like flowing, sparsely melodic ambient soundscapes.

Check out youtube.  They have all kinds of frequency/Binaural beats.  You need headphones for the binaural stuff.  They send diff sounds to each ear...

I know about the binaural stuff, and I just find my whole 'expectation' or whatever about them holds me back than just the meditating. I think the organic nature of the feeling brought about by intense music is better than trying to sync your brainwaves or whatever.

I am the opposite of you, lol.  I find the singleish tone of the binaural beats easy to focus on when meditating.  I find most music distracting esp when it ends.  I don't think about what the tone is doing or what frequency it is.
I find the ohm the most soothing.  136.1hz.  It is the frequency of the earth rotating around the sun, raised thirty some octaves into human hearing range.  Very soothing imo.  That frequency has been used for thousands of years in Indian music/meditation.
Have you tried mantra meditation?

To be honest, I dont even listen to music when I meditate at all, as I dont need it that much. If a singlish tone and music ending is distracting, try NO tone and a never ending silence. This is the shit bliss is made of . I think I used to have methods of meditation, but I've been doing it for so long I just dont really have a method anymore.

Believe me, anything you can find 'out there' you can only perceive because the frame is already 'in here'. I bet the Ohm binaural thing sounds just fine, but have you ever tried OHMMMMMMMMMM ing on your own? Shit is BLISS.

What tantric meditation are you referring to? You know psychedelic experiences are technically tantric meditations?

This is a fascinating thread. I was wondering about this just the other day. I usually have a fan on when I meditate because I like the gentle background noise. Absolute silence is nice too but it's hard to find in a college dorm. I'll have to try vocalizations the next time I'm meditating in nature.

I just posted a meditation about sound and silence on my blog. Use the sounds around you to become aware of your silent center. This is an awesome technique, it's why a lot of meditation centers have a little bell on the door, or a gong.
