Im fishing the Macquarie River mate
I went for a 2-3 hour spin with a surface lure, i threw plenty of casts but caught nothing. Its probably a litlle too cold for surface fishing at the moment and with the river flooded the current was too fast for the lure to work right. Plus the wind was causing too much disruption to the surface for the lure to be seen by the fish.
Im going to head back out a little later and try bait fishing. All i have is cheese but i have had great success catching cod on it before:thumbup:

Seen plenty of carp. Im going to target carp throughout winter to try and do my bit for the river:sun: Its pretty fun catching them, they are BIG and do put up a great fight.

I know.  The second one in from the left is a northern.  All the others were caught in Central PA in the past 2 months

This fish was caught drifting a small red bead on a long ass light leader, with just enough weight to clink the bottom in the current..

I reckon it would be really fun going fishing in a different country. It would be a whole new fishing experience. One day i hope to go fishing in the usa for salmon, trout, pike and whatever else there's to catch! It would be pretty different from aus fishing thats for sure.

The pike you have there is a nice looking fish:thumbup: Whats the biggest pike you have ever caught? I watched something about pike on tv the other day. They get huuuge:eek:

Where do you normally fish over there trueze? Dams, rivers?

You used a red bead as the bait? Is that a common method to catch em?

Yeap, some of these particular pnw rivers the fish stack up just as tight as the fishermann do. The bead imitates a single egg, placed right in steelhead's face. He gobbles it up like every other morsel. Not the most exciting way to fish but productive..

Locky,

That is the largest northern I have caught to date.  I usually don't fish for northerns unless on a trip for them, as the waters in the area I live don't harbor that species.

I mostly fish for trout, bass, and panfish, but I don't rull out anything else if I know I'm going to be in the right area.

Stream fishing and lakes is what I wet my line in mostly.  We have a couple good rivers in PA near me, the Susquehanna and the Juniata, but I don't get there as often as I would like.  I'm going to have to make it a point to start going more I guess!

I went out last night after work and caught 3 large mouth and a buch of crappie.  Nothing to write home about, but the one below was the largest...

Redsnapper,

Thanks for that tip.  I try to get up to Erie for the steelhead at least once a year.  I'll have to try that out!  Do you happen to have a picture of the rig set up?

I like fishing these small rivers/creeks that get almost no fishing pressure.  Not many places over 3 feet deep but lots of fish and no other fisherman.

Smallmouth might just be my favorite species to go after in these small waters.  Caught a nice 3 pounder later that day but she escaped my grasp before I could snap a pic.

I don't have a pic on hand. the rig basically is a 1/2 oz. cannon ball sinker sliding on your main line, a swivel connects main line to leader, bead slides on leader and hook is snelled on end of leader. Weight type and weight, leader length, bead and hook size all depend on conditions. Usually I start with 1/2oz weight, 12-14ft of 12 pound leader, 3/16-1/4 inch bead and #1-2 size octopus style hook. Roe can be drifted on this rig also with a much shorter 2-4' leader.

Hope this is helpful..

Deff is.  Will try that rig next time I go up to Erie, PA!  Maybe I'll also try elsewhere if nothing else is working.  Thanks bud!
