Asian Horror (especially Japanese and South Korean) is where its at. It works on the deepest part of your mind, much differently than North American or European horror.
More disturbing than scary but leaves you sketched for a week after watching. The Grudge was creepy as fuck years ago but I refuse to watch the original Ju-On just because I am uncomfortable with dead Asian ladies now.

Pet semetary and as a kid the movie that scared me to death, like couldnt sleep without a light on and door open and if I had to pee I would hold it till it was painful just so I didnt have to go out in the hallway, it was a disney movie of all things called "The Witches".  The head witch in this pic terrified me

I dont know why it scared me so much either, the part that got to me the most was when the kids were hiding in the walls looking through the peep hole at the room full of witches and they look like normal people and then they pull their faces of to reveal their ugly faces, shudder.  All jim hensons movies have a creepy vibe to em to me for some reason.

I came here to say some of these, but I couldn't remember half the movie names.

I had a friend who was really into Japanese horror, and we watched so many movies together.. it's by far my favorite kind of horror.

The Evil Dead (1st one, at the drive in a loooong time ago)
Insidious (recently saw it, and it creeped me,LOL)
Bereavement (very disturbing)
Paranormal Activity 3 (kind of spooky)

Jaws ( back when it came out. I was about 12 or so and my mom let me see it. I was totally blown away and hooked on scary movies after that.)

all the 70-early 90's movies were great. They had to actually make the creatures and make-up in detail on a lot of the horror movies then. Now CGI has taken over for a lot of effects. I still like new ones sometimes, but the good ones are few and far between. The Asian horror genre is really creepy/good at making me squirm.

Its hard to feel scared anymore. I have been watching horror movies since I was a child.

One of my favorites is The Descent.

A movie that recently gave me a bit of the creeps which was totaly unexpected seeing as it was a killer doll/puppet movie was "Dead Silence".  Its from the guys who made the first saw movie (dont know if they made many of the saw sequels) and while 80% of the movie is rubbish theres a few genuinely atmospheric and old school horror scares.

  Barely any blood all just tension and atmosphere.  What realy got to me about it was like 2 nighs before I watched on history channel or discovery or one of those types a channels called "histories mysteries" i think it was called and they had an episode about a possessed raggedy anne/andy doll.  I dont believe in that shit and doubt the stories of the people but the way the episode was presented was creepy.  This lady got the doll from a garage sale as a gift for her daughter who was leaving for college. The girl tossed the doll onto her bed and there it stayed and that was that.  Well according to them weird things started happeing like she would come home and in her room she would find the doll sitting upright with arms and legs crossed with its head cocked towards the door like when you hear a person come into a room and instinctfully look up at them. 

At first she blew it off and arranged it back how it was but it kept happening and then they claimed to of locked the doll up in a completely different room and when she came home it was in her bed arms and legs crossed again looking at the door.  You can read about it on google if you want, just type in histories mysteries haunted doll.  Anyways yeah with that fresh in my mind "dead silence" probably packed a bit more punch than it would of normaly but overall despite the cheesiness and the fact that the story is fantasy I still enjoyed it.
