Echinopsis Subdenudata - Stunning
    #15954708 -

It makes me sick to think that this had a plastic flower hot-glued to it once upon a time... This opened at about midnight last night.

It doesn't make me sick thinking about it. You know why? Because it made it to someone who loves it enough to persuade it to put out real ones.

Stunning flowers, by the way.  :awepreciation:  :awebig:  :awecid:

Nice one, trophy. She's a beauty.

I picked up two cacti at the hardware store the other day and there were dried lumps of glue all over the poor thing

What's with the plastic flower thing anyway?

I assume it's just a marketing ploy by the companies that low-budget nurseries (Lowes, Home Depot, Etc) order their cacti from... Trying to get old ladies to buy them thinking "Ooooh, this flower is nice." And then they realize when they get it home that the damn this is plastic... Then it surely and innevitably dies from improper care. Some of them are harder to tell, but when I bought this one, he was surrounded by a couple that just had lumps of glue all over them... It was F'd up. I almost walked out, but I wanted a new cactus really bad, and I guess I made a good decision.

my ex brother in law bought a glue cactus from wal-mart once, and it had him completely fooled until i pulled it off and disected it for him. i'm wondering where these cacti come from, china nurseries? it seems like it would be easier to include a tag with proper care instuctions to actually get the cactus to flower. then again, i actually knew a guy who worked at this nearby cactus nursery. he might have glued flowers, but i doubt it. he had a room full of peyotes/trichocereus there, and some delicious catha edulis shrubs. he said they didn't really make money on the thousands of little cacti, but they were composted by the thousands to use as tax write offs, since a compost pile can hide true numbers. now that i think about it, every single one of their cacti were in flower all the time, hmm...

Yeah, idk but it only seems to be at the commercial nurseries that I find them, and it seems like they all come from the same, or very similar nurseries. The reputable nurseries by me never have anything added onto the plants, but the cacti are a little more expensive and not labled...
