guttentag , ive had a quick search around trying to determine if this is the same as trichocereus bridgesii or not and am finding some conflicting information . i found a seller flogging echinopsis bridgesii and he clearly has a picture of a trichocereus bridgesii . is there a difference ? thanks .

Echinopsis and Trichocereus are just different names for the same genus of Cacti, so yes Echinopsis Bridgesii is the same as Trichocereus Bridgesii. Echinopsis is just a newer name for the genus

Sorry Oohway but your completely wrong. The source of your mistake is that Echinopsis and Trichocereus are not synonyms. T. bridgesii = E. lageniformis E. bridgesii = only E. bridgesii Before Echinopsis and Trichocereus were merged they were two different genuses and there was a species named bridgesii in both genuses. E. bridgesii and T. bridgesii, two very different cacti. When Trichocereus was absorbed into Echinopsis the Trichocereus bridgesii was renamed to Echinopsis lageniformis. E. bridgesii is a little cactus not believed to be active.

thanks for that information . im guessing the seller has stuffed up as the picture in his ad is a trichocereus bridgesii and its sold as a fat 35 centimetre cutting . this implies there is no way its an echinopsis bridgesii then ? thanks .. { i love it when cacti sellers stuff up thier id's as it seems to usually work in my favour }

I wouldn't go that far(saying there's no chance).
Do you have a picture? There's a lot of knowledgeable cacti lovers here that could help you out.

That's definitely Trichocereus and not Echinopsis bridgesii. However it's not Trichocereus bridgesii. It looks like it might be a peruvianoid...
