anyone tried out the windows 8 beta?

looks pretty weird. I am downloading the .iso right now, and will probably burn to a disk, then install in a virtual machine. I must admit, this seems likely that they would want this version of windows on a windows tablet(where I am guessing windows 8 will first be show cased)

but on a pc? the interface is just, WEIRD:

Apparently, Microsoft believes that there's a new generation of retards for whom even the existing Windows interface is too difficult to master :shrug:

Anyway, I said it before and I'll say it again: I believe MS's attempt to create one OS to serve widely different markets is doomed to fail. It won't be optimized for either tablets or PC's and will probably suck at serving both purposes.

I agree.  Of course, since Balmer took over at Microsoft, they haven't been making the most intelligent business decisions.  Leave it to a marketing yoyo to manage a monopoly out of business.  Unless Microsoft replaces Balmer, and quickly (it might already be too late), they are doomed.  The only thing saving them right now is Office... and without a tablet version, they will soon lose that monopoly as well.

you know that modern VM software can install from an .ISO so no need to burn to a disk?

You can Disable "Metro" by changing the Dword value RPEnabled to 0 under the Registry entry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

no no no. it's a linux host running vm guest virtualbox. Yes I know you can select the folder location as the disk drive when installing an os. Thanks though glad you are on top of that.

I ditched the idea, my vbox gave me a kernel error. I went to vbox forums and got some advice about the error, then got a synaptic package manager error. Anyway I've heard too many bad things about the beta, winblows is known to screw up when brand new why would I want to install a beta. I still have the .iso on file but don't want to play with it anymore. You tried it? Pretty tablet looking. If you ask me it looks retarded, they should have stuck with the ipad look, and why a tablet OS has to look exactly like a desk top OS? I don't know

I installed it on a Oracle Virtual Box without any problems. But your problem might be a hardware related issue. I found that my 64x laptop wont install 64x virtual machines, but it lets me install 86x vm's without any problems.

I was having some vbox problems anyway, I canceled on the idea though. Is it any fun??

Sorry to be half ass about it. I don't know I still have the .iso located in a directory.
I can try again later I suppose

That looks atrocious. 

I concur with Seuss.  Microsoft is doomed.

But the global economy will probably collapse before Microsoft does on its own, but the end result will be the same.

I'm a fan of linux, and I've been using it sucessfully for over a year now. But I don't hold hopes for new pc games coming out for linux. Which means the future will be a rather bland mixture of auto aiming console shooters, long load console rpgs, and gran turismo/xbox equivalent.

Maybe windows 7 will stick around like XP before it. Windows 8 looks like another vista/ME.
