Acupuncture
    #15331054 -

So, ever since last Thursday I have begun going to see an acupuncture therapist in hopes of fixing all the crazy stress related shit that has been going on in my body for the past few years.

I have gone twice so far, and I am not going to lie, it has reduced my anxiety dramatically.  I was literally having panic attacks while DRIVING until I went for my first treatment.  The goal here is to hopefully get all of the fucking acne on my face to dissipate, but I am certain once the majority of my anxiety has been alleviated, the acne will disappear along with it.

Has anyone else done this shit before?

Any thoughts?

i have no personal experience with it but my wife's friend is very into it... she had an upper back and shoulder pain... she tried conventional approach but only pain meds gave her complete relief... then someone told her to check out acupuncture and she's now off the meds... afterwords i did some net reading on it... it makes alot of sense treating nerve pathways, i just wonder how the they were able to not only come up with the concept of acupuncture but were able to identify accurate nerve locations... they did this on their own without any real knowledge of human biology...

you better keep us posted on how you're doing by updating this thread from time to time... i'm looking forward to your next post...

So 5 treatments later and I am feeling WAY less like shit.

I don't really even know how to describe it - I feel a lot less of a reason to smoke or to drink, almost like there is a new level of confidence in me.  The negatives far outweigh the positives when I think about what I have been doing to my body as far as my past addictions have been concerned, and that is something I feel like I am slowly coming to terms with.  My mind feels like it is slowly clearing itself up.

I love how it is almost like a forced session of meditation; it is extremely unwise to move when you have needles all up in your shit.  I feel like this is a huge part of the process, like it teaches you how to chill the fuck out despite being fully conscious or awake.  I sometimes slip into these mild precursors to full blown panic attacks in which I can observe my heart rate speeding up and my body beginning to feel as though it is flying forward or producing some sort of adrenaline.  But doing this has taught me how to calm it down, to convince myself that I am bugging out for no reason, and to accept it rather than try to run from it.

Also my acne is getting slightly better.  Not too much to report there.

I just went to my first acupuncture treatment earlier today. Coincidentally I was just about to make a thread about it and found this one. I am going for relief of back/neck pain and pretty severe anxiety related to my condition ("mild" scoliosis). I am in mild pain almost 100% of the time and feel physically uncomfortable sitting, standing, or walking. My breathing is also resticted so its is hard for me to take deep breaths. I went to a chiropractor for 3 months but stopped going because I only noticed any improvement initially.

After todays appointment:
I am pretty much pain free right now, I notice my posture is better, I feel taller and my movement is more fluid. Breathing is deeper and comes more naturally. I also feel very relaxed and less anxious. I don't expect these benefits to last forever but I am enjoying them for the time being. I definitely feel acupuncture could potentially offer permanent relief but only time will tell. I look forward to my next appointment!

I noticed this as well. I practice meditation because that deep inner relaxation and release of tension is one of the few things that relieves my back pain and calms my anxiety. I made the mistake of moving my hand and I felt a "jolt" all the way up my arm. It helps to know how to relax and still yourself.

Overall, I have to say, I am very fucking pleased with the results.

The process has treated two major things overall:

1) Debilitating Anxiety - I was having frequent panic attacks and experiencing what I thought was some sort of schizophrenic depersonalization.  I would literally tap into a head space that would make me feel completely and utterly alone and like I was going to die right then and there without anyone giving a shit.

I assumed this was because I did a friend's entire prescription of 20mg vyvanse over a 2 week period, so I knew deep down that my dopamine levels would eventually even themselves out, so there is a possibility that the acupuncture was nothing but placebo in that area.  I would like to think that it drastically sped up the process though.

2) Knee Pain - I had a fucked up left knee (it was extremely painful to put any sort of strain or pressure on it) and the last time I went there, my therapist put a bunch of needles in my knee and did some sort of electro-shock shit on it.  I haven't looked into the process in depth, but it has certainly helped a lot more than I would have ever thought.  It took about a week, but the pain has subsided substantially.

My acne has gotten a little bit better, but nothing to brag about.

Placebo or not, this shit is a great way to, at the very least, give yourself the illusion of becoming healthy.  It feels fucking great and that's all there is to it.

Thought I would bump this thread rather then create a new one...

I have continued seeing my acupuncturist, along with a physical therapist and have seen some great improvement with my lower back pain. I still have some pelvic misalignment and cervical damage that I am considering seeing both a massage therapist and a different chiropractor for(yay for health insurance!). While acupuncture most definitely aids in the healing process I think I need to try some different treatments regarding my hip/pelvic dis figuration.

I switched the focus of my treatment now towards anxiety/depression. Anxiety relief with acupuncture is instantaneous for me. I usually get one needle right on my third eye (not sure what the Chinese call it) and a few around the crown of my head. Then I lay there for about 45 mins and drift off into some hypnagogic state between sleep and waking consciousness. I notice a lot of subconscious thoughts and desires surface and come to my attention. Things I didn't even realize I was angry or depressed about come into light. Sometimes waves of anxiety and fear wash over me, I just ride them out like one would ride out an intense psychedelic trip. Everytime I walk out of there though I feel calmer and more centered

Last time I was there I had him focus on my lower chakras (once again I'm not familiar with the Chinese terms/meridians) to aid in digestion and chi movement. I had been sick the week before and just felt stagnant in every way. He put two needles on opposite points a few inches from my belly button and placed a UV lamp overhead. Within ten minutes I started to become very uncomfortable, eventually around the thrity minute mark I was praying for it to be over, waves of intense energy were washing through my body and I just wanted to get up and move around. Eventually I had to call the accupunturist in to remove the needles. Im curious if my hip/pelvis problems prevented some of that energy from grounding itself. Either way, it was an unpleasant experience and Im considering trying a new accupunturist.

If there are benefits, there are also risks.
The risks of acupuncture are:

It is dangerous if the patient has a bleeding disorder. research peptides
It the dangerous if the patient is taking blood thinners.
There may be bleeding, bruising and soreness at the insertion sites.tanning peptides
The needle may break and damage an internal organ (very rare).
Unsterilized needles may infect the patient. buy melanotan 2
When inserted deeply into the chest or upper back there is a risk of collapsed lung (very rare).tan research peptides

Theres risks to most procedures in medicine though. Ive been reading up on acupuncture and ayurveda. they both seem like very old and useful practices. Now to find one near by...
