Do it yourself Solar POwer!

A couple rubies, diamand cutters, crystal prisms, silicon conducter, aqueos silver acid, ab switches, and a ground.... Anyways, I thought of some cool ideas, whether the applicable or not,, is up to whoever makes the solar power. A ruby crystal lens, ruby because it would filter all other lower density lights, the "apex" (or centering) would be focused into a triangluar prism directly onto a silicon conducter to a batter. The crystal is key! But whether the crystal acts as the conducter or "eye" I have no idea.

When I get my own house I am going to put solar panels on my roof and live off of solar power. Does anyone really do that?

not really, no. it can be used to augment your electric hook up but you cant run solely off of solar power with the panels on your roof. expecially considering how expensive they are. it's not even plausible unless you live in the desert. you might want to consider a wind/solar combo.. i dunno. where i live if you can manage to produce more electricity than you consume the power comany actually sends you money. so that's kinda cool.

Ya!!!! That is what I will do. A wind/solar combo. I think that would be bad ass. I would still use power from the power company......but most of the power I want to produce myself.

Depending on how your utility company handles inputing energy on to the grid, you can actally save money on equipment, bypassing batteries and just pumping any excess energy out. Then on cloudy or calm days, when your energy production does not keep up with consumption, you can draw the power off the grid.

I believe some states make the utility companies pay you the same rate per kwh as consumers pay them. Other states allow the utilities to keep a little profit. In some places, you aren't even allowed to pump energy in to the grid. You should check all your local laws and stuff before attempting connecting to the utilities.

Anybody that is interested in alternative energy for their home should visit the website www dot nrel dot gov. (Since it is a federal government site, I did not make a link to keep the shroomery out of their logs as a site referer.) They are located in golden colorado and are the authority in this field. NREL is national renewable energy labratory and they do research on solar, wind, etc.

I have a friend that had a custom built house made to be energy efficient. It is half buried into the side of a hill. The front of the home is aligned to catch the sun in the winter for warmth and shade in the summer. He uses a combo of solar and wind to power pretty much everything.
