Need a homemade conductive paste recipe

will salt and flour mixed with water work once its hardened?

this is what its for, the band for this LCD display had a bad connection, so i plan to put drops of something conductive under the black bands, which is where i assume the connections are being made.

i was going to use artic silver until i realized its made to conduct heat not electricity.  I thought about elmers glue but apparently that doesn't work either. 









so yah hopefully someone can help me out here, im a DIY'er, i enjoy doing stuff like this.  and im hoping to not have to run out to the hardware store if possible.  also i have some wire, so if anyone has an alternative to a paste im open to idea's.

I don't know if what you're thinking of will actually solve your problem, but there are pens that lay down conductive ink...

im not sure if the pen would work because i think i have to get really close to where the 2 peices of glass meet, which is why i was thinking a paste would be best

why do you think it wouldn't work?  what else do i need to do to fix it?

look into the pens, pretty sure some of it is kinda think.  you have to wait for it to dry before use also.  i was really expecting this thread to be about repairing liteon dvd drive pcb's.

i would much prefer if that was the case, these cheap plastic bands are a pain in the butt to work with, i much prefer some actual wires

why not remove the band all together, and just solder wires to the leads on the lcd and the pcb, that way, you have good connections and won't be so brittle...

i wasn't sure if solder would stick to glass, and i can't even see the connections on the glass either...its weird as hell.

so if it will stick that is an option, altho i imagine it will be really hard to melt 16 drops of solder on that glass without letting it touch, and managing to get a piece of wire into it as well:sad:

but i do wish i could somehow convert it to wires

Your not trying to solder the glass so its ok if it doesn't stick.

just make sure the solder is contacting the correct connections.  I don't know, you could use some sort of thin plastic to try to separate the leads from each other while you're soldering.

oh so your saying i should basically tin the end of some wires, then put a bit of plastic or similar material between them, and then just tape/glue it all in place?  that might actually work, altho the other end of that plastic ribbon is going to be a pain in the butt.

Don't spend too much time on it though. That piece of equipment is probably fubar.

no the equipment was working just fine except for one or two digitals on the display would go in and out, so i knew it was just a loose connection.

anyways it prolly is fubared now lol

id say this has about a 2o percent chance of working lol

Ehhh...right. Perhaps using a smaller gauge of cable instead of wire would have been a better idea...good luck in any case. Make sure you treat that contraption with care, 'cause those contact pads are going to rip right off the pcb, I can guarantee you that :crazy2:.

i ripped all the wires off they were just to big, some of them kept falling off when i moved them or the solder ended up touching.

anyways im kinda at a loss at this point.  that tracer stuff is pretty expensive thow, how exactly would i use it to fix my device?  id still need wires going from the glass to the pcboard right?

the band with stripes in the picture is junk at this point

at the same place they also have conductive paint you could use instead of solder to glue the wires to the conductive traces
and use epoxy to stress relieve the conductive paint connection
also you need really fine wire like the wire used to wind small 3 volt motors or from a wall wart a part like that would use 1 or 2 micro amps so any wire that you can see will work
to get the insulation off that wire try to tin it (this dose not always work) or burn it off then sand the wire with 600 grit sand paper
you may also need to lightly sand the traces too to get contact with the conductors in the traces

woah, total mind fuck I thought the title said conductive pasta recipe, and you were going to use some kind of linguini pasta to connect things instead of wires. WOW for a second there I was actually contemplating the idea if it would work. :runaway:

how bad is the ribbon cable if the cable is still intact it can be almost be completely rebuilt with a conductive pen
like replacing missing traces but if the cable is cut you need to fill the conductive gap with wire

your not too clear as to how badly it's fucked up

the LCD displays I've seen had a rubber strip with conductive and non conductive bands that some how clamp between the ribbon cable or the circuit board and the glass so you will still need some of the ribbon cable
to connect to the rubber strip and what ever you will use to connect to the circuit board
