gyms and suspects?

these where found in south west florida in the pine woods. the woods had a fire while back. alot of the wood was charred, but even the mushrooms were still growing out of the burnt areas.
the mushrooms were growing off the wood.
they smelled like normal mushroom.
the tasted sorta bitter but im not sure.
the spore print is still in the process, but in one of the pics you can see the spore print on one of the caps.-looks reddish brown.
all the mushrooms were fairly small and lacked any viel that i could see.
there are two groups, one which i think are BLG'S. and the second group i believe are sapineus sp.

was also thinking for the second group possible Gymnopilus liquiritiae and or Gymnopilus luteoviridis

Those definitely look like gym's to me. Good job! Be careful that there are no galerina in there.

thats why i wanna have alot of people look through em. ive only messed with gyms from connecticut. im new to florida. also still waiting on a spore print and i noticed when i use to pick gyms up north they anly stained blue when i would actually dry them.

they are out in abundance right now.

I agree those are Gymnopilus and I dont think I see any Galerina.
The first set look possibly active but wait for a TI to confirm.

im just a little concerned about some maybe being gal sp.... so im not sure if i should take em or not. any idea how to tell the difference? the spore prints arent coming out well... and yeah dude i was thinking about you the other day man. started to pick my life up again and im doing great. how r u? and blue fun guy thanks for the info.

There are no Galerina in your first set...trust me.:wink:
Galerina are hygrophanous and Gyms are not,that is one way to tell the difference.

i am still holding on to specimens from 7 months ago until i get a scope (the myc was bluing on these as well).
gyms are crazy in florida.
microscopy needs to be done.

yeah none of the caps ever had a hygrophanous look to them. litterly none of the mushrooms i picked in all of the sets. is that a constant trait of gals?

All Galerina that I know of fade to buff while drying,just like Psilocybes will.Also,Galerina do not have fibrous caps and are usually tacky when moist.

true galerinas have hygrophanous caps. All of yours are gymnopilus. I'd call your first set close to G. Sapineus and your second set close to G. Penatrans.
    The mushrooms in the "BLG" complex DO have a superior veil, so #1 isn't in that complex

Doubtful. There's a lot of confusion between penetrans/sapineus complex so even if some were active, it would be difficult to determine which one is which. But I could be wrong. :shrug: Only Gyms I've dosed on were BLG's

i have seen no literature on penetrans being active and i've also bioassay'd about 7 grams of them.
there are undescribed active gym's in Florida though.

oh...Alan, you need to add Gymnopilus junonius, Gymnopilus palmicola and Pluteus salicinus to the Florida actives list.

Truth. I really like finding Gyms, even when they're not active. In fact ... I think I'll change my sig on that note,
