Glycol and Fog Machine
    #15468777 -

So I have an interesting question and concept that I'm hoping someone could help me with.

Propylene glycol is the active leading ingredient in oust which kills spores, molds, virus and basically anything airborne.  Since you usually Oust an area before working on your stuff to kill anything airborne, has anyone tried using just fog juice to do the same?

I made this attempt to kill everything in the house, and started back from the absolute basics.

The jars do perfectly fine, but once mixed into tubs we have had tubs that went green, and tubs that didn't do anything at all but stay the way we set them up.

Can anyone see this as being the issue from the fog?  Thanks

propylene glycol is not antibacterial. It won't help one bit. It's also not the active ingrediant in oust.

Sorry your right its the Triethylene glycol that's the leading ingredient in oust, but propylene glycol is what Dr Robertson found to take care of all pneumococci, streptococci, influenza virus, etc, etc...

They're were two time magazine articles about it but now you have to pay for them so found them without pay here.

The link below shows all possible usages of PG.  As stated ""Indoor Non-Food: Propylene glycol is used on the following use sites: air treatment (eating establishments, hospital, commercial, institutional, household, bathroom, transportational facilities); medical premises and equipment, commercial, institutional and industrial premises and equipment; laundry equipment; hard non-porous surface treatments (bathroom facilities); automobiles; air conditioning filters; pet treatment, including cats, dogs, and caged birds; environmental inanimate hard surfaces; garbage containers/storage."

This can be found at this link

I did a study for PG for school and found that it's usage kills pretty much every airborne bacteria, including molds.  Is it because OUST has it on a lower level that it wouldn't stop growth completely once set into a tub?

The tubs that have green I figured I didn't have it completely fogged out, so it would have been something else in transfer.

I got $5 that says I can spray oust or lysol directly on trichoderma, dreanch it, and the trich will be back in 3 days. When it's on something as nutritious as substrate, it's unstoppable

I'm not disagreeing with you on killing tric my main question is that two tubs that were done when it was completely fogged out went from health jars to the tubs, and has been over 2 weeks and has done absolutely no colonizing.

It looks like it was just mixed in yesterday.

The ones from when we fogged out earlier, but didn't have high concentrations of it wound up all going, but wound up being strong in the beginning then turned either really fluffy white and started growing on the sides of the tub.....or green.

My question is purely on the fact of the ones that didn't do anything.  And also if anyone has ever tried fogging with fog juice to sanitize, and if so what were the results?  Or if anyone could see a different problem.

I highly doubt the vaporized glycol had anything to do with it.
Awhile ago i did some reading about the safetly of Ecigs (that use propylene glycol) and came across an article about them using vaporized glycol in hospitals. a quick google search on glycol as an air disinfectant turns up some pretty neat stuff.
I dont think its nearly the concentration that you fog machine is putting out, also Im not sure what particle size it needs to be vaporized to to be effective as a disinfectant
