2. The white fluff at the base is mycellium, and that's due to either too high or too low humidity (I don't remember which ...) .. but it's ok to eat.

3. You can eat the cake if it DOES NOT contain vermiculite. But even then I wouldn't really recommend it. A little cake crumb won't make a difference either way.
