"I have no way of knowing whether you, who eventually will read this record, like stories or not. If you do not, no doubt you have turned these pages without attention. I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

Also, everyone wears polo shirts.

Also, you can't go anywhere without a car.

Also, I imagine all men above 30 to be "chummy" and slap each other on the back even if they're only distant acquaintances, and call each other by the standard nicknames.

from my experience of living in greece, a lot of the american hating stereotype is overblown. i lived in an area that saw a lot of people from all over - brits, germans, french, norweigans etc. and encountered none of this attitude. maybe it's because i'm polite and respectful (and i was often mistaken for being german for some reason), but from what i gathered most were genuinely interested in what it's really like to live here if the subject was examined any further.

and fucked up government? please. take a look in the mirror. america does not by any means hold the patent on that.

America is a land of little trust or sense of community in the larger cities. IT is a melting pot of crime sex and excess and the land of opportunity for anyone willing to milks the poor bastards.

I love stereotypes, this is a great thread.
My aunt who moved to England from California did say a lot of old timers in the pubs loved Americans for our part in WW2. I guess they where the patriotic ones

stereotypes are great, my old boss used to have a problem with naggers, of course at times he would have to do business in
Stockton(a real crappy ghetto town) and since he grew up in Oregon he thought all blacks where the same(this was at least a decade ago, probably a lot longer). About 5 years ago he started checking out the south east(U.S.) for a place to live and he came back and all he could talk about are how nice every one was especially the blacks. He was dumbfounded. I really got a chuckle out of that. Seeing some old fart come to realize there is more than meets the eyes and not every region has the same problem, ghetto cities versus more rural areas or what ever.

Two miles from my house

Back yard

Not all city, but every one already knows that, just figured I would share some recent pics from today and yesterday.
I love having new tires on my truck... gotta find them shrooms, oh where oh where are you chanterelles, and maybe a bit of... some other things, new roads to travel and places to explore.

But yeah, keep em coming, I love it, great thread

I think your Government is flawed, and corruption is rampant throughout both the leaders of your country and in the private sector.

However that is no representation of the people that are from America. You find fuckwits in every country, to stereotype every American as a greedy obese red neck is just narrow minded and misguided.

A little less "World Police" mentality would increase my faith in the US.

I'm an American living abroad.  This is how many (though definitely not all) people from other countries see us, IME.

Quote:
We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world, a nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that is how history will judge us. No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we'll kill you.

- Hunter S. Thompson

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Strange... sounds like Britain :lolsy:

Far from the truth

Sure London is large and there are lots of junk food venues but this is what England is really like:

The food is junk but not it the classical meaning of junk. It just tastes horrible, otherwise its not bad for you  The people I meet everyday are fairly annoying buts thats because they're all unitards. I think the old timers are great.

There is lot of vegetation here as well (because of the humid climate there are also palms just not as many) and I can get sick weed from my friend at a normal price.

You should've said great weather dude. I don't have anything on that

Oh right... it's 72F year round :bongload:

I'm American and I don't like most Americans.
Then again I probably just don't like most people. People suck.
We have a lot of stupid fucktards in this country, probably the cream of the crop.
But I also think we have some of the cream of the crop awesome sauce too.
I like this country and the general realness vibe but I hate our fucking government and it must die.
