Lastly, could getting a prescription for suboxone bite you in the ass later in life? I working in the medical field and will soon be applying for jobs... I dont really want them knowing that Im on suboxone... So could having a script for suboxone affect me getting a job?

They are different classes of drugs.

When you withdrawal from benzos, you're sending the GABA system of your brain into shock and that's what causes the severe withdrawal syndrome.

Taking an opioid (in this case suboxone) is not going to balance out the GABA centers in your brain. Why? Because opiates do not significantly effect the GABA system, they work on opiate receptors instead.

Taking Suboxone (an opioid) to come off of xanax (a benzo) is equally as dangerous and upsetting to the brain as going complete cold turkey from benzos.

Plus, even if you manage to cut back on the benzos while on Suboxone, you're then addicted to Suboxone which is also no joke.

Don't add opiates to the mix unless you want a much more complicated, worse addiction.

I honestly can't believe any doctor recommended this.

Seriously. Trading one addiction for another isn't the answer. I'd find a new therapist. The one you have is apparently delusional.

The doctor who recommended this is one of the top doctors in my area... And this is why it took me by surprise! She recommended this more to alleviate the anxiety of coming off xanax... Less for withdrawal symptoms. I know suboxone has nothing to do with GABA receptors... but it DOES get rid of my anxiety. My biggest worry is having another seizure from quitting xanax... It happened twice a few years back and will do anything to avoid that again

I have taken suboxone in the past and it saved me from opiate addiction... I was doing GREAT with opiates for a year and a half(with VERY little dabbling) until the last month or two... So the suboxone would not be used in vain.  I have come off of suboxone in the past with little to no effort... Xanax on the other hand is VERY VERY difficult!
