friend hitchhiking to berlin, fucked up stuff happened

got a call from her: she was picked up in lithuania and the driver ran over a girl. she said she was squatting on the road and the driver didn't see her until the last moment. they ran over her and called the cops immediately. she then called me, hysterical. she doesn't speak russian and its the middle of the night, now she's staying at the local police station til morning. she texted me afterwards and said the girl died. fucked up.

Maybe its just me but hitchhiking in eastern europe sounds kinda crazy to begin with. Case in point.

lucky she wasn't picked up and raped or something else horrible.  Either way, glad she's safe and in the hands of police.  hope she gets home allright. sketch situation to be sure.  i'd never hitchike alone - and i'm a decently-built guy.

she got there in a day last time, by herself. i've hitchhiked a lot but yeah, considering the distance i'd take someone along.

As night-time car arsons in Berlin continue unabated, some citizens are calling for neighbourhood groups to prowl the streets looking for culprits, an idea that appears to be gaining ground.

The idea for citizen patrols has gained support during the week-long spate of arson in the German capital, which have left dozens of cars, mostly expensive models, burned out.

More than 300 vehicles have now been set alight since the beginning of the year, including five overnight Sunday.
