PS Mycological Society Outing - *Pics* 1

I finally got around to sizing and uploading these pictures from a weekend event I went to with the Mountaineers and the Pugeot Sound Mycological Society. Hard to believe it was 3 weeks ago already. As far as I know I was the only shroomery member out of maybe 170 mushroom hunters. We spent the first day scavenging for edibles and other cool fungi. I thought at first that these were psilos but they turned out to be inocybes: Some nice polypores: Fairy Ring mushrooms: ID? After compiling and samples of what everyone had collected, the experts went to work ID'ing everything and laying them out on workbenches by family. I'll start with the Big Laughing Gyms: Overnight it snowed, unfortunately. Here's a group of frozen matsutakes. The chantrelles were mighty tasty! I ate well for the next week and a half I learned A LOT about non-actives from the PSMS experts. Now I'm thinking it might be fun to get a commercial mushroomer license for next year. -BP

cool pictures Those first ones do resemble psilocybes, I would have thought the same thing as you. Maybe I should joint a mycology society does it cost money?

Shows how abundant the puget sound is for fungi! Even 6 years old thread..
Oregon does have a good mycologic society and a active truffle society
Dues tend to be Fairly low in my mind, $ 20-40 per year. The PSMS is very active in Seattle and surrounding area... As is the kitsap and Olympic groups. I highly advise joining, you can find all types of people there!! Eatable mushrooming is a fun hobby and is growing in popularity. One real benefit is the forays, most often with a good ID'er

That explains everything. I was sitting at my computer in awe of the diversity of mushrooms out in the hottest, dryest part of the year just 300 miles north of me...

Hahaha! I predict a wave of threads asking for specific hunting locations and i.d. threads with no photos

From people that don't read the rules in any case, so their attitudes won't much be affected by a rule change.
