Proper Chinese is soooo good. Both Kantonese and Mandarin. Problem with the Chinese restaurants around here (Netherlands) is that 99.9% of them cater for the European palate, which means that everything is overcooked, too greasy and lacking flavor/seasoning. However, there are a couple of authentic Chinese restaurants, especially in Rotterdam, The Hague and Amsterdam where the food is just sooooo fucking delicious....

Oh, and just for good measure: in my street, there is one pizza joint, one snackbar (pretty much the local equivalent of an American diner), one shoarma place, and two Chinese restaurants. All within 100ft from each other. The Chinese places are always deserted, but that's ok, because they're sponsored by the Chinese mafia anyway. Which is not a lie btw; about 90% of the Chinese restaurants in The Netherlands are apparently controlled and funded by Chinese cartels.

All of the "chinese" food we know is american anyway actually. Good luck finding an egg roll in China, let alone anything else they sell in chinese restaurants here.

I love chinese food.  Particularly this little place not to far from me, it's the best i've ever tasted, and so much different than all the others.
I also enjoy quality authentic mexican food. Not the tex mex shit or taco bell around here.

Hey shut up newbie, I cook at home almost all the time. It's just that sometimes I like to go on these things called "dates," with members of the opposite sex known as "women," who oftentimes appreciate a meal or two at an eating establishment before such intimacy is established as to enable cooking a meal for her myself at one of our places of residence.

I would prefer not to poison my ladyfriend, so it is important that I find a place not chinese; I would also not like to alienate her tastes, so it's important also that I find a place not a chain. I'm finding there are few places that don't fall into one of those two pigeonholes.
