6 mil polyethylene plastic light penetration

shelves w/ 6 mil plastic surrounding & humidifier tube feeding in / filtered air patches.
wondering where to place light? desiring to stand a single fluorescent vertically - must it be inside the plastic or will the light penetrate the 6 mil plastic? the plastic is thick- can't see definitive shapes behind it w/ eyes
appreciating the help !
