sungazing

i'm wondering if anyone here has tried this, preferably over an extended period of time, and what the results have been. i've been thinking about giving this a shot after i saw the 'eat the sun' documentary trailor that was posted here, and i was wondering what i should expect. from the sounds of it, it seems to often lower one's appetite, which i think is quite neat, among other benefits

so what say you? :sun: :shineon:

I always feel great when I lay out in the sun. I definitely feel like I'm being charged like a battery. Haven't tried prolonged sun gazing per se, although the idea is intriguing. The best time would probably be the sunrise and sunset?

I enjoy NOT being blind. Have fun with that though.

I personally think the idea of staring into the sun seems like an incredibly stupid idea. However if some people enjoy doing that and it brings positivity and meaning to their life, good on them

here's a webpage outlining the practice: http://www.sungazing.com/index.php?p=1_5_How-to-Sungaze

i used to stare at the sun as a child

of course safety is a huge concern. sunrise and sunset are the safest times as the light is less intense, also going slow and seeing how your eyes react is important.

i dunno if i'll try this or not, but it seems very interesting :sun:

I do it here and there, I usually use my periphials rather than directly into it, staring directly is hard without wincing. Haven't tried the full practice.

When you stare after so long, when you look away you will notice a spot, if you concentrate on it, it usually becomes a lot more visible, and with more concentration it usually turns red or green and sometimes blue. Don't know what the significance of it is though.

interesting. never really considered doing that. isn't that weird... you can see the sun everyday, but not consider staring at it for several minutes???

probably because common sense tells you not to stare at the sun. I will say, I have stared at the sun directly during sunrise and sunsets, but any other time just seems like you are asking for permanent eye damage.

I've tried it a bit after sunrise and before sunset. It really does leave you feeling 'charged' although i haven't tried it long term. And I have a friend who's sight is damaged after being forced into staring at a solar eclipse as a child, so don't do it anytime other than an hour after sunrise and before sunset. happy gazing.

I find the blindness brought on by extended sungazing is very spiritual--without any external visual distractions I can completely focus on my internal being and mystical Self.  :sun:

i personally don't think much in terms of making a practice out of it.
I did notice that after i stare at the sun for a while, the after image is a cross.
Made me wonder about religion and what those sun worshipers were really up to

You are. Not literally, but there are known benefits of being exposed to sun light. Some vitamin.. can't remember. Helps with immunity.
On that note, if you have pets you will notice that they find those spots in the house where light peeks through and shines on the floor and they lay there.
I haven't noticed animals staring at the sun, so if they don't do it i reckon there isn't much benefit in it for us either.

As for the negative effects, i doubt you will go blind from it. I'm no doctor but as far as i know, apart from possibly getting a seizure if you're photosensitive, there aren't any drastic side effects from gazing a lil bit every now and then when it isn't too bright.

Vitamin D...I don't think you are going to increase your intake because you are look at the sun though. You can get plenty just being in sunlight.

During spring/summer i usually head to a hill near me where you have a 180degree view over london with the sun setting, i only look directly at the sun in the last 10-15 minutes as its easy to look at then... i do feel good after but i don't feel i eat any less though, might have something to do with the fact i usually have the munchies afterwards

Seeing that perfect circle through the brightness is pretty amazing :shineon:

Standing in the sun is probably enough, no need to stare. There are times when i stare at the sun for like 2 seconds, but only because its so damn beautiful. Honestly i don't think it has much of a benefit. You might just gain more from not gazing than sun gazing.

Don't forget to moongaze as well. And zZZz has a point, unless somehow you get more energized by focusing on the sun with your eyes, you should be able to feel benefit from it by just having the sun in your view.

Instead of looking directly at the Sun, a Qigong technique I picked up that I have found really useful is to imagine that the sun is going into your mouth and turning your saliva into a golden light.  Then when the saliva is charged up swallow it and feel the effects of energy gained instantly.

Haven't tried sungazing, but I suspect the same sort of thing.

Peace
Ev

I've been sun azig consistently or the past couple months everyday about an into the sun rise. I actualy really enjoy the practice and have noticed hunger starting to decrease. However I fasted before sun gazing, going as log as a week without food. Great practice in my opinion, definitely should be researched before practicing.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us all. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
