Question on the stems of Panaoulus Cinctulus and Panaolina Foe.

On P. cinct do the lines on the stem Always twist up the stem, how about almost always?  What about in P. foe?

not always,and sometimes in foes.

The only way to be 100% sure in most cases is to take sporeprints. And even then n00bs - especially those that badly WANT to have found P. cinctulus - very often mistake very dark brown for charcoal/pitch/jet black.

I use checkerboard black and white paper.  It helps as well

But your saying moat of the time P Cinctulus twists, and most of the time P Foe doesn't; right?

Would be awesome, and if it could have in depth different variations/comparisons of their (Cinc vs Foe) caps, gills and stems at different stages of growth. I don't think I have a good enough camera! :frown:

Nope, the way the lines on the stem twists doesn't separate them at all.

I'd have to agree. Just been out to the park, mix of Cinctulus and Panaolina.... I think it's more lke 95% Panaolina and 5% Cinctulus :crankey: The lines on the stem don't mean anything.
Would be good to see what the gill digny/dull brown looks like because there is so many range of colours, especially when they are at different growth stages. I know the dark brown that the more mature Panaolina have but I picked several that had what I would class as a digny brown but not grey :shrug:
From what I've seen so far for grass Cinctuluses, nearly full grown is an obvious grey and fully grown is black.

Are there any Panaeolus Sp. that have toxins in them? Can I just eat each and every Pan I find and see what happens? I found some that look very much like cinctulus in my yard today, but ive never seen them in person. Can I just do a stomach check? Spore prints looks dark grey, that means cinctulus right? Right!?

No Panaeolus are toxic and no black-spored mushrooms are toxic (same thing, suppose!:wink:)but, don't lie to yourself and tell yourself that brown-purple print is black-"ish". Look at the comparison photos online. Look at the prints in different lights and angles if yourself still unsure.

I said they looked dark grey, I suppose black-ish would work too.  I'm guessing by your skepticism that dark grey is the correct color for cinctulus?

I have an 2oz of dried cubes in my fridge man, I wouldn't lie to myself about a couple cinctulus lol.

Hunting guides for Cinctulus specifically state "Jet Black" for a reason. If you're finding it hard to really tell what the colour is, wait longer for a bigger spore deposit?

It just sounds like you're trying to convince yourself when you already said it looks "dark grey" or black-"ish". Jet Black is unmistakeable once you see it. How do the gills look? Light grey/charcoal black?

In my belly.. they were light grey though.
